The Pitt Panthers had to sweat things out until Selection Sunday to learn its fate for the NCAA Tournament, but the wait is finally over for Jamie Dixon’s bunch as the Panthers will indeed be going dancing. Pitt ends up as a No. 10 seed in the East region where it will face No. 7 seeded Wisconsin in the first round in St. Louis on Friday. The Panthers finished the regular season with a 21-11 record. Meanwhile the Badgers finished the season 20-12. If the Panthers can get by ... Read More
Pitt bounced from ACC Tournament in loss to North Carolina
Defending has been an issue all season long for the Pitt Panthers and the inability to get stops proved costly once again as No. 7 North Carolina ran away from the Panthers in the second half Thursday, en route to an 88-71 victory, bouncing the Panthers from the ACC Tournament. Now Pitt has to sit back and wait as they will learn its NCAA Tournament fate on Sunday evening. The Panthers hung around with the Tar Heels and led late in the first half before a 10-0 UNC (26-6) run closed the half ... Read More
Pitt survives Syracuse charge; advances in ACC Tournament
With its NCAA Tournament hopes slipping away, Pitt turned to its senior leader and James Robinson delivered. Robinson broke open a tie game with a steal and a layup with just over a minute left and gave the Panthers a cushion with a jumper in the lane with 22 seconds left as Pitt advanced in the ACC Tournament with a 72-71 victory over Syracuse. With the win Pitt advances to the quarterfinals where No. 1 seed North Carolina awaits. They also likely all but punched their ticket to the NCAA ... Read More

Jamie Dixon and the Pitt Panthers have had plenty of great moments at Madison Square Garden in the past. Next year they will get the opportunity to play at the Garden once again. Michael Young named Third Team All-ACC
As the Pitt Panthers prepare to take on Syracuse Wednesday in the ACC Tournament, the Panthers will need a big game from junior Michael Young. That comes on the heels of Young being recognized by the ACC as a member of its all conference team. He became the second Pitt player voted to an All-ACC team from the league's coaches. Lamar Patterson was a second-team selection in 2014. Young was also voted a third-team selection from the league's media. The junior averages 16.1 points, 7.1 ... Read More
Inconsistent Pitt falls to Virginia Tech
Just when you thought it was safe for the Pitt Panthers to punch its ticket to the NCAA Tournament, Jamie Dixon's team came out and showed what type of team they are once again Wednesday night at Virginia Tech. A very inconsistent one. Just three days after pounding Duke at home for its best win of the season, Pitt fell to Virginia Tech 65-61, once again putting its tournament hopes on life support. Zach LeDay had 20 points and 10 rebounds and Virginia Tech used a 16-4 second-half run to pull ... Read More
Pitt gets signature win; crushes No. 15 Duke
The Pitt Panthers basketball team has spent all season looking for a signature win, having gone 0-6 against ranked teams prior. Sunday afternoon at the Petersen Events Center they got one against No. 15 Duke and they got it in a big way. Led by Jamel Artis with 17, five Panthers players scored in double figures as Pitt led wire-to-wire in a 76-62 rout of the defending national champions. “We may have had our two best practices of the year the past couple of days,” said Artis. “We knew ... Jamel Artis lifts Pitt to win over Syracuse
Often this season it has seemed that the Pitt Panthers go as Jamel Artis goes. On Saturday at Syracuse Artis was very good and so were the Panthers. Artis finished with 21 points and 11 rebounds as the Panthers defeated the Orange 66-52 Saturday afternoon at the Carrier Dome, keeping their NCAA Tournament hopes alive. That included a tie-breaking three-pointer with 6:55 left that gave Pitt a 48-45 lead. The Panthers outscored Syracuse 18-7 the rest of the way. James Robinson also finished in ... Read More
Pitt desperate for win as tournament in jeopardy
Rewind the calendar just a couple of weeks and the Pitt Panthers were in a pretty solid spot. Despite not having a real good win on the season, Pitt sat 17-4 overall and more importantly 6-3 in a very tough ACC. That left them in a solid spot for the NCAA Tournament as three weeks ago Jamie Dixon's team was being viewed at best as a No. 5 seed. My how times have changed in just a couple short weeks. Pitt sits at 6-6 in the ACC and 17-7 overall and while that isn't bad, they still don't have ... Read More
Pitt crushed by No. 9 North Carolina
The Pitt Panthers entered Saturday’s matchup against No. 9 North Carolina desperate for a quality win. Needless to say they had no chance of getting one against the Tar Heels. Brice Johnson scored 19 points and Marcus Paige added 15 as North Carolina dominated the Panthers throughout en route to an 85-64 victory. Pitt (17-7, 6-6 ACC), who trailed by 16 at one point in the first half, was down 42-29 at the half before cutting the deficit to just seven early in the second half. But the ... Read More
