Pittsburgh Riverhounds head coach Dave Brandt is continuing to bring in more recruits for his team. Almost a week after signing former Riverhounds captain Danny Earls, Brandt and the Riverhounds announced the signing of forward Jack Thompson on Friday afternoon. Thompson’s contract is for one year, but it has a 2017 option on it. Thompson previously played for the Charlotte Independence in the USL, where he made just one appearance and scored one goal. “Jack is a strong and talented ... Read More
Willie Hunt’s long journey has helped him find success with Riverhounds
While Willie Hunt hasn’t been with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds as long as, say, Kevin Kerr or Michael Green, Hunt has quickly become a fan favorite. Hunt, who is in his second year with the Riverhounds, has a big support system behind him at Highmark Stadium. The defender primarily plays centerback along with Sergio Campbell, and Hunt helped lead the Riverhounds to the playoffs last USL season. He says clinching a playoff berth in the last game of the season while beating their rivals, the ... Read More

COLUMN: Riverhounds might need to switch up defense
Last Saturday, the Pittsburgh Riverhounds made the decision to switch up the goalkeeper position. The Riverhounds didn’t get a win out of it, but things look promising with Mauricio Vargas in goal. However, goalkeeper might not be the only position that needs changing — the defense might, too. The Riverhounds can’t solely depend on their goalkeeper for a clean sheet. As the back line, the defense plays a major role to help Vargas (or even Hunter Gilstrap, depending on who head ... Read More

LCFC is currently number one in the Eastern Conference. However, the Riverhounds were able to give them a run for their money, resulting in a 2-2 draw. The Riverhounds were the first to get on ... Three things we’ve learned from the Riverhounds’ start to the season
The Pittsburgh Riverhounds haven’t exactly started their season the way they’d like. This season, the Riverhounds have lost two matches and have drawn once. (Most of the other USL teams have played four or five matches, but the Riverhounds’ match against the Harrisburg City Islanders was rescheduled to July 4 because of snow.) The Riverhounds lost 1-0 in their home opener on April 2 to the Rochester Rhinos, the defending USL champions. However, the next week, the team drew against Toronto ... Read More
