Earlier this week, the Pittsburgh Steelers announced that they have re-signed cornerback William Gay. I've said it many times before. In every sports city - especially Pittsburgh - there is always a scapegoat. For the Penguins, it has been Marc-Andre Fleury, Paul Martin and most recently Tyler Kennedy. For the Pirates, it's Kyle Stark, Neal Huntington, Rod Barajas, Clint Barmes and Clint Hurdle. A few seasons ago for the Steelers, it was none other than Gay. Was Gay as bad as people made him ... NBA in Pittsburgh?
Our Michael Waterloo mentioned last week that David Stern listed Pittsburgh on a short list of cities that could possibly see an expansion team in its town. Our fans here at Pittsburgh Sporting News seem to be torn on the subject. But if we put our allegiances to hockey aside, would a professional basketball team succeed in the Steel City? Personally, I'm not a hockey fan. Now, I know I'm way against the norm here at The Yinzer and most of you probably are instatly closing this article, but ... Read More
Stern includes Pittsburgh on short list of possible NBA expansion cities
The talk gets thrown around every year about whether or not a NBA franchise could succeed in Pittsburgh. As a small-market city, a NBA team would have to compete with the Pirates, Penguins and Steelers. Could Pittsburgh possibly support a team? Apparently NBA commissioner David Stern thinks so. Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle sat down with Stern and asked him about the NBA possibly adding expansion teams so Seattle and Sacramento could both have teams and Stern throws out a Pittsburgh ... Super Bowl Weekend Mock Draft
Steelers 2013 Mock Draft: Round 1.) Dion Jordan, OLB, Oregon Jordan has the look of one of the next monster pass rushers in the NFL. He is very athletic at 6'6" and around 250 pounds. Jordan also has great quickness off the edge and has been compared to San Francisco 49ers outside linebacker Aldon Smith. Jordan may still be a bit raw and may need time before stepping in as a starter which could drop his value a bit. If he falls into the Steelers laps they will likely take him without much ... The Steelers finished with a whimper, losing five of their last seven games to finish at 8-8, on the outside of the playoffs looking in. The ... Read More
It’s the end of the world as we know it
No future date has been more spoken of than today, December 21, 2012. People have made careers off it. The supposed end of the long-range Mayan Calendar. Famed American philosopher Terence McKenna had developed a numerological formula he dubbed “Timewave Zero,” in which he charted the ebb and flow of major events over world history. His graph goes off the charts in December of 2012, which he proposed would be the point of singularity; in which everything in the world would occur ... Read More
How is Steelers defense ranked No. 1 at midway point?
Another half of the season is done in the NFL, and the Pittsburgh Steelers defense is ranked No. 1 through those eight games. Watching those games, an outside fan might be impressed, but Steelers fans might ask how? We as Steelers fans are spoiled in a way, and our impressions of the team may be a little different, than let’s say a Jaguars fan assuming there are any. Watching these first few games, the defense to us looked weak and in slow motion. James Harrison coming off an injury hasn’t ... Read More
