Houston, we have a problem. That problem is simply that the New England Patriots beat the Pittsburgh Steelers to once again to head to yet another Super Bowl. The Steelers, in reality, didn’t do much to halt the Patriots' passage to Houston, where Super Bowl LI will be held. For New England, it seemed like another walk around Boston Park. Plenty of Steelers fans made the trip to sit in the trenches of Gillette Stadium and cheer on the Black and Gold. However, those fans had to ... Read More
Grades: Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Baltimore Ravens
While the Pittsburgh Steelers celebrated their “present” of becoming the AFC North champions on Christmas Day, the Baltimore Ravens sat with a “bah-humbug” attitude in their locker room. The Steelers narrowly defeated the Ravens, 31-27, on Christmas Day to secure the AFC North title and punch Pittsburgh's ticket to the playoffs. The Ravens are officially eliminated from the playoffs; the Oakland Raiders, Kansas City Chiefs and Miami Dolphins have secured the rest of playoff slots. Here are ... Read More
Defense comes to play in second half, propels Steelers to 24-20 victory
At halftime of Sunday’s game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cincinnati Bengals, the Steelers trailed 20-9, and it looked like the game was going to end up being another head-scratcher for Pittsburgh and its fans. In the first half, how could the Steelers, one of the league’s most lethal offenses, only muster 132 yards and nine points (off three field goals)? How could Le’Veon Bell, a legitimate MVP candidate who had a monster first half last week, only rush for 29 yards in Sunday’s ... Read More
Three up, three down: Steelers vs. Bills
Don't look now, but the Pittsburgh Steelers are — once again — catching fire in December. After four straight losses looked to have the team's playoff hopes on life support, the Steelers (8-5) have now reeled off four consecutive wins, the latest an impressive 27-20 win over the Buffalo Bills (6-7) at Ralph Wilson Stadium. The win pushes the Steelers closer to an AFC North division crown with another critical road test head this Sunday when the team travels to Cincinnati to face the ... Read More
Grade: Steelers vs. Colts
The Pittsburgh Steelers raked in their second-straight win, beating the Indianapolis Colts 28-7 on Thanksgiving night. Quarterback: Ben Roethlisberger has been shaky in recent weeks, but, against a depleted Colts secondary, he looked like the MVP of the NFL. Roethlisberger completed 14/20 passes for 221 yards and three touchdowns — he didn’t throw a single interception. Late in the fourth quarter, head coach Mike Tomlin decided not to let Roethlisberger embarrass the Colts any longer, so ... Read More
Three up, three down: Steelers vs. Ravens
What can really be said when it comes to the Pittsburgh Steelers' absolutely horrific loss to the Baltimore Ravens? Although the 21-14 final score might trick those who didn't spend their afternoon watching the game into believing it wasn't that bad, it was, in fact, even worse. Let's do the game's post mortem on the loss in this week's edition of “Three up, three down.” Three up: Artie Burns turning the corner? — With starting cornerback William Gay out of the lineup with an injury, rookie ... Grades: Pittsburgh Steelers vs. New England Patriots
The Pittsburgh Steelers might have lost to the New England Patriots on Sunday, 27-16, but it wasn’t the blowout many thought it would be. Give the Steelers some credit: They held their own against what is considered to be the best offense in the NFL. Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski and LeGarrette Blount aren't easy to defend, but the Steelers held them to only 27 points, which is a victory within itself. Now, the Steelers head into their much-needed bye week where they'll get some rest and ... Read More
Steelers struggle in 30-15 loss to Dolphins
In a game that featured the Miami Dolphins running the ball for 222 yards (despite coming into the game 28th in the league in rushing yards), Lawrence Timmons throwing up on the sideline, heat cramps, Ben Roethlisberger leaving the game with a knee injury before returning and Jay Ajayi becoming the first running back to rush for 100-plus yards against the Steelers this season, the ending almost seems fitting. There was almost no other way for it to end other than a Dolphins win, 30-15. The ... Read More
Steelers select 2016 captains
The Pittsburgh Steelers have named their four team captains for the 2016-2017 NFL season. The team took a vote and, for the second year in a row, named Ben Roethlisberger, Cameron Heyward, William Gay and Robert Golden as the captains. Roethlisberger is the lone offensive captain, and Golden is the lone special teams captain, while Gay and Heyward both share the defensive captain role. Roethlisberger has been a captain for the Steelers eight times. He was elected captain in 2008 and 2009 ... Read More
