Last week, Pittsburgh Penguins winger Chris Kunitz took home the Yinzer of the Week for the second straight week. This week, however, he was dethroned by a junior forward from IUP. Even though IUP fell short of advancing in the NCAA D2 Tournament this past weekend, Marcel Souberbielle had a fantastic showing in the three games that IUP played in. In the first round of the tournament, he scored 16 points on 5-9 shooting. His only misses came from behind the three point line. He went a ... Read More

Yinzers of the Week: PITT Seniors
For this week's edition of Yinzer of the Week, we've decided to change things up a bit. First, we're giving the award to two players rather than one. Second, we're compiling the stats for an entire career not just a week. Lastly, we're giving the award before the game is even played. Generally, we take a look at the teams in the Pittsburgh area and take a look at their records and the outstanding players of the week. The week runs from Saturday to Friday, with the winner announced on each ... Read More
Yinzer of the Week: Marc-Andre Fleury
For the past two weeks, Lucky Jones has taken home Yinzer gold, but this week he was outsed by someone who Penguins fans have a love-hate relationship with: Marc-Andre Fleury. Fleury played in two games for the Pens this past week and they won both times with him in goal. Against Buffalo last Sunday, he saved 30 of 33 shots, giving him a save percentage of .909. Even though he allowed three goals, the Pens were able to score just one more than the Sabres and pick up the 4-3 win. The Pens ... Read More

For the second straight week, Lucky Jones has been a producer. The Colonials went 1-1 this week in a week where Pittsburgh sports all saw about the same results. He added 5 boards and 3 steals to his stat sheet before the night was over. He shot a perfect 2 for 2 from behind the arc and made 11 of 12 from the charity stripe while carrying RMU ... Read More
Yinzer of the Week: RMU’s Lucky Jones
While Robert Morris' basketball team continues to fly under the radar, Lucky Jones continues to quietly put up numbers. This past week with two wins over St. Francis (PA) and LIU Brooklyn, Jones averaged 15.5 points and 5.5 assists. Wednesday night he was perfect from the floor, shooting 3-3 from the field and 13-13 from the free throw line. He's the first player to be completely perfect since Louisville's Samardo Samuels did it back in 2010. The game before going 100 percent from the field, he ... Read More
Yinzer of the Week: Tomas Vokoun
Tomas Vokoun was perfect for the Pens this week. With Marc-Andre Fleury struggling late in the game Tuesday night, the Pens put Vokoun in to close out the game. While he only defended seven shots, he saved all seven of them. The Isles were already up comfortable but the late game performance was good enough to get Vokoun the start Thursday night. While in the goal against the Rangers, Vokoun posted another perfect performance. He fought off the Rangers all night, defending and saving all 28 ... Read More
