I have been relatively quiet the past two weeks. I know, I know. I have had to divert my attention for a short while to some awesome personal and professional endeavors.
Today though… today was one of those days I wish I was off for the game more than ever. Next to the Flyers, the Capitols are the team I hate the most. I despise them. I can’t stand them. And oh do I love it when the Pens wipe the ice with them! This was one of those games.
I did get a bit nervous there for a bit when the Pens let the lead slip away. My heart sped up a bit as I furiously refreshed the Pens website and text bombed my husband for updates. The score wasn’t astronomical (I do love those games), but the fact that Crosby had three assists and Kunitz had a hat-trick… well I am smirking as I sit behind the desk at anyone I know who isn’t a Pens fan.
With this win the Pens are now only one point behind the Bruins for the top spot in the Eastern Conference. That is exciting, but it changes so often. The win makes this day a little better, especially considering the Super Bowl is at 6:30. This is one of the first years that I am dreading the Super Bowl. I don’t want to see either team win. I don’t. I will gorge myself on wings while booing every call and touchdown made. I will be one of those fans tonight while in the comfort of my home.
It is a sad day for the Steeler nation and not just because of the Super Bowl. Jerome “The Bus” Bettis was denied entrance to the Football Hall of Fame for the third year in a row. THE THIRD YEAR IN A ROW! He’s the bus. You don’t say no to the bus. The people who vote on this are crazy – I’m telling ya!
Then again… you have Hines Ward. He plays football, he dances, he cooks, and now he’s a zombie. I’m sure everyone has heard by now that our football great is going to make a cameo on the greatest zombie TV show ever, The Walking Dead. I can’t wait. And not just for Hines. As a Yinzer I just love zombies. Who doesn’t?
So now it’s time to dread this evening and the winner of the game. It’s time to look forward to the next Pens game. It’s time to look forward to a football great turned into a zombie. All in all, it hasn’t been a horrendous week for Pittsburgh sports. At least the Pens are doing something to keep us pumped.
