It was announced Sunday night that three teams from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference would be playing in the Division 2 Men’s Basketball Championship.
IUP, East Stroudsburg, and Slippery Rock were all selected as part of an eight-team regional and 64-team tournament set to kickoff this weekend.
IUP is the PSAC Tournament Champions for the 2013 season. The Crimson Hawks are led by Mathis Keita. Keita was named the PSAC Most Valuable Player and is averaging 13.5 points and 6.2 rebounds per game this season. He’s shooting just under 47 percent from the field and just over 33 percent from behind the arc. He’s leading the team in scoring, rebounding and minutes played per game. IUP comes in as a number 3 seed and will face number 6 East Stroudsburg.
East Stroudsburg is led by Whis Grant who’s averaging 17.3 points per game this season. He’s shooting 42 percent from the field for the season and just over 80 percent from the foul line. Duane Johnson and Terrance King are both averaging over double-figures, also. Johnson is averaging 14.4 points and 6.3 rebounds per game while King is averaging 13.4 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. The Warriors will take on IUP in West Liberty at 12:00 pm on March 16th.
Slippery Rock were the runners up to IUP in the PSAC Tournament this season and earned a number 7 seed as an at large bid. Slippery Rock is being led by Devin Taylor. Taylor is averaging 14.2 points and 10.0 boards per game this season. Darious Clark, Gerald Brooks, and Tabari Perry are all adding double-digit scoring averages to the team with Brooks and Perry adding over 5.0 boards per game a piece. The Rock will take on number 2 seed Winston Salem at 2:30 pm on March 16th.
Each team will play their regional games at West Liberty, all the way up until the regional finals.
