The Pittsburgh Steelers will have three players representing them at this year’s Pro Bowl if they do not go to the Super Bowl. The three players, who are all offensive players, that were voted on by NFL fans were quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, wide receiver Antonio Brown, and lineman David DeCastro.
For DeCastro, it’s his first Pro Bowl. The lineman has lent a helpful hand this year in protecting his quarterback. However, during the beginning of the season, it didn’t look like it. Most of the 30 total sacks on Roethlisberger came in the first half of the season. After their bye week in Week 11, Roethlisberger has been sacked seven times. DeCastro’s abilities also helped in the run game for running backs Le’Veon Bell and DeAngelo Williams.
For Roethlisberger, it is his fourth Pro Bowl, as he was also elected in 2007, 2011. and 2014. Roethlisberger, despite a few injury problems this year, has put up some impressive numbers. He’s throw for 3,369 yards and threw 18 touchdowns. His interception count might be at 12, but his passer rating is a solid 96.4 percent. Roethlisberger will look to tally his touchdown number as he faces the weakened, and injured, secondaries of the Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns for the Steelers last two games.
For Brown, it is also his fourth Pro Bowl, as he got the nod in 2011, 2013, and 2014. Brown has been his usual self this year, making explosive plays and doing crazy touchdown dances. Brown has caught 116 balls from quarterbacks Roethlisberger, Landry Jones, and Michael Vick this year for 1,586 yards. He averages 13.7 yards a reception and has scored nine touchdowns this year.
Even though the Steelers only have three players attending the Pro Bowl, they will be well represented. As mentioned ,the Pro Bowl is voted by NFL fans around the world. This year, the teams will be captained by NFL legends Michael Irvin and Jerry Rice. The Pro Bowl, which will return to Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii, will be aired on ESPN on January 31, 2016.
