Carnegie Mellon’s Sam Benger named PAC Offensive Player of the Year
Carnegie Mellon sophomore running back Sam Benger put together a big 2015 season. Big enough that some postseason honors will be coming his way. The first of which comes from his own conference as Benger was named the 2015 President's Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year on Tuesday. The PSAC West slate has now come to a close and for the third straight season, Slippery Rock will represent the division in the PSAC title game. SRU will compete against West Chester for the PSAC championship this weekend. With a win, SRU will become the first program since the championship game was reinstated to win the title back to back. The W&J Presidents entered last Saturday’s game against case Western Reserve knowing that if they won out they would more than likely be heading back to the NCAA Division III playoffs. Clarion Golden Eagles fall for first time; SRU holds on to highlight PSAC play
Some big games highlighted this week's PSAC West action, and the outcomes came out even bigger. Clarion fell for the first time this season at the hands of the Cal Vulcans, who picked off one of the nation's most efficient quarterbacks six times. Then, on Saturday night, Slippery Rock held off a potent rushing attack from IUP and won by a single point. Despite the loss, Clarion remains atop the PSAC West, but it fell out of the AFCA Top 25. Following a big win against Bethany on Saturday, W&J running back Ryan Ruffing was named the President’s Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week. Ruffing had 170 yards from scrimmage on 19 touches, rushing 17 times for 116 yards and three scores and catching two passes for 54 yards in Saturday’s 66-42 win over Bethany.
