PSAC West Week 8 Round-Up
IUP 28, Mercyhurst 6 The IUP Crimson Hawks picked up a solid day from their running backs as De'Antwan Williams ran for 186 yards and a score en route to a 28-6 win over Mercyhurst. IUP scored on their first two drives and took a 14-0 lead. They never looked back. After the Lakers put up a field goal in the second quarter, Williams scooted in from 25 yards out to put the Hawks up 21-3. The Clarion Golden Eagles have had a rough go of things the past few weeks. But as things got tough for the Eagles, their All-American defensive end came through when they needed him. Julian Howsare single-handedly took down the Seton Hill Griffins Saturday as the Golden Eagles picked up a sound 41-2 victory. Edinboro upset #22 ranked IUP this past Saturday in what coach Scott Browning called one of the biggest victories in his eight-year career as a head coach. To do that, they had a strong defense but also received some tremendous play from their redshirt-freshman quarterback, Jon Girvin. With his team down 6-0 to start the second quarter, Girvin tossed a 26-yard pass to Jordan Williams to connect for a score and tied the game at six. Edinboro 36, #22 IUP 30 Behind a strong defense and the arm of redshirt-freshman quarterback Jon Grivin, the Fighting Scots pulled off an upset over IUP Saturday, 36-30. Girvin threw for 262 yards and three touchdowns in the victory. Defensively, Edinboro forced five turnovers and returned a blocked punt for a touchdown to smother the Crimson Hawks. A year ago, we spoke to Tyler Batts, who is a local football player looking to achieve his dream of making an NFL roster. Batts has played professionally indoors for the past two years. In 2012, he was a member of the Cedar Rapids Titans of the Indoor Football League, where he earned the team's Rookie of the Year Award. Batts rushed for 308 yards on 74 carries for six touchdowns.
