Warning: What you are about to read is different from what many others have written on this subject. If you are expecting this post to lay blame on twenty years of losing because of four days of training, or pander to the "I hate Bob Nutting just because its easy" crowd, please turn back now. There's a lot of things the Pirates have done wrong over the last two decades to get to where they are today. The combination of being a small market team, failing to draft the right players, and ... Nationals Show Pirates How to Handle Gerrit Cole
Just when you thought the Pirates had the most heartbreaking end to their season, the Washington Nationals swooped in to take the top prize. The Nats blew a two run lead in the ninth inning by surrendering four runs to the St. Louis Cardinals. The game five loss ended Washington's incredible run and first postseason appearance since moving from Montreal in 2005. Entering the playoffs with the most wins in baseball, the divisional series loss has to be considered premature; however, given the ... Read More
The Pirates are the ex-boyfriend that breaks your heart
A relationship between a fan and their team is no different than that between a man and a woman. Just like the last guy I dated, I thought this Pirates' season was the one. Finally, everything was falling into place and we were destined for greatness, or at least a few steps above the mediocrity that I’ve allowed myself to accept for the majority of my life. But I was wrong. Think back to July. The Pirates spent the bulk of the month battling for the division, win after win distancing ... Read More

Pirates Clinch 20 Straight Losing Season; But Getting Better
Two seasons ago, the Pirates wrapped up their 18th consecutive losing season by August 20th. They would finish with a record of 57-105. Last season, the Pirates finalized their epic collapse with an 82nd loss on September 14th. This season, the Pirates waited until September 30th before breaking their own North American record for consecutive losing seasons. Rest assure there is improvement. Pirates lose 82nd game of season
The Pirates racked up their 82nd loss of the season and completed their twentieth consecutive losing season with another heartbreaking loss. Wandy Rodriguez had another decent outing, but could not get credit for the win. He pitched six innings, struck out seven, and allowed two runs. Tony Watson and Jason Grilli each did fantastic out of the bullpen and had scoreless innings, with Grilli striking out the side. Joel Hanrahan came into the game with a 3-2 lead, but blew his fourth save of the ... Read More
Pirates clinch loss No. 81 as they are no-hit by Homer Bailey
Everyone knew about the collapse part two. 16 games over .500, only to fall under the mark. The worst collapse in baseball history as pointed out by Jayson Stark. Technically, the Pirates would still be able to avoid it. They just had to win six of their last six games against two teams who have clinched playoff berths. To reference Dumb and Dumber: So you're telling me there's a chance? The most loyal Pirates fans kept the faith, even if they really didn't believe it. Even if the Pirates ... Read More
Are The Pittsburgh Pirates Allergic To Winning?
After today’s loss to the New York Mets, there is absolutely no margin for error if the Pittsburgh Pirates hope to end their 19-year losing streak. If the Pirates truly want to crush their fans hearts in style, they should win four games then lose the last two and finish just below the mark. That seems to be how they do things around here. Look at the fact they got to 16 games over .500 and most experts, including myself, thought there was no way in hell even the Pirates could blow such a ... Read More
Rodriguez’s success continues with victory over Mets
The Pirates moved to two games under .500 with a 10-6 victory over the New York Mets tonight. Wandy Rodriguez had a solid outing for the Pirates, only allowing three runs. He did allow back-to-back to Justin Turner and David Wright, but those were the only runs scored against Rodriguez. Chris Resop was touched up in the seventh inning, allowing three runs in only a third of an inning of work. Jared Hughes relieved him and was pitching when two of the runs scored, but they were still charged ... Read More
Pirates snap five game losing streak with 8-1 win
After barely any offense Saturday night, the Pirates broke out this afternoon and had eighteen hits. A solid game pitched by A.J. Burnett also helped the five game losing streak come to an end. Burnett pitched eight very good innings, while striking out eleven, and allowing one run. He hadn't had a win in over a month, and his outing today was very impressive and one of the better ones of the second half. Chad Qualls pitched a hitless ninth to close the game out. A productive fifth inning ... Read More
