After a five-game win streak and a high-flying start to Atlantic 10 play, Duquesne’s offense has gone through a bit of a rough patch during the past three games. They have only broken seventy in one of those contests – and that was after playing their worst first half of the season in a game against Saint Joe’s. To make matters worse, the Hawks were lacking the presence of starting forward Ronald Roberts, a household name on Hawk Hill, along with sixth man Isaiah Miles. An important ... Read More
VCU Pulls Away Late to Beat Duquesne
Duquesne suffered its third loss in a row Saturday afternoon when they visited VCU in Richmond. The Dukes (8-8, 1-3) hung with the Rams for most of the game, but fell farther behind with under eight minutes to play. Even though Duquesne led 31-27 at the half, the Rams were able to pick up their 14th straight home win. VCU led by just five with around eight minutes to play, but pulled away when JeQuan Lewis knocked down two straight 3-pointer to kick off a 22-8 run that blew the visitors ... Read More
Pitt edged out by No. 2 Syracuse in first ACC loss
No. 22 Pitt and No. 2 Syracuse hooked things up Saturday afternoon in what was the early ACC Game of the Year. Watching the two teams play, it was an ACC game in name early as for 40 minutes it seemed liked just another Big East Conference battle as it turned out to be another Pitt-Syracuse classic. However Syracuse freshman point guard Tyler Ennis played like a senior down the stretch, making two big baskets and sinking two huge free-throws as the Orange stayed unbeaten, handing Pitt ... Recap: Late Run for Duquesne Falls Way Short
Duquesne (8-7) went on a 30-2 run in the final 4:49 of the basketball game Wednesday night in Philadelphia against St. Joseph’s, but it wasn’t nearly enough to give them the victory. If anyone would have told coach Ferry before the game that his team would go on that kind of a hot streak, but still lose the game 84-75, he would have been beside himself. The loss puts an end to Duquesne’s three-game road win streak and is the Dukes’ second straight loss to an A-10 opponent, dropping their ... Read More
Pitt’s unselfishness continues to carry team
Throughout Jamie Dixon's era as the Pitt head coach, we have heard the fact that Pitt is an unselfish and defensive minded team about a thousand times. That mantra has carried the Panthers to outstanding success over the past decade plus, but during Pitt's first season in the ACC, they are taking playing unselfish, great team basketball to another level. One of the reasons that Dixon's teams have always relied on unselfish play is they never really had a go-to guy at the offensive end that ... Read More
Pitt stays perfect in ACC with road win over Georgia Tech
With the way he has been playing lately, you had to wonder how No. 22 Pitt would fare on a night where Lamar Patterson didn't have his best scoring game. It turned out to be no problem at all. Talib Zanna scored 22 points, James Robinson added 16 and Pitt pulled away in the second half, remaining perfect in the ACC with a bruising 81-74 victory over Georgia Tech on Tuesday night. With Patterson not shooting well and Durand Johnson out for the season with a torn ACL, Pitt was committed ... Read More
Analysis: Duquesne vs. Saint Joseph’s
Duquesne squares off against Saint Joseph’s Wednesday in their first A-10 road matchup of the season. After seeing a five-game win streak get snapped by LaSalle Sunday afternoon, the Dukes will be looking for their second conference win and fourth road win of the season, after winning three straight on the road over the holidays. The Dukes suffered several losses early on in the season that may have been avoided if they would have had their whole lineup intact. Both Isaiah Watkins and Micah ... Read More
Pitt cracks Top 25 Rankings for first time this season
For some reason it took them quite a while but Jamie Dixon's Pitt Panthers basketball team has finally cracked the Top 25 rankings. In the latest AP Poll, the Panthers come in ranked No. 22, after going the entire season thus far without sniffing the Top 25. That alone is a bit shocking for a Pitt team who has started the season 15-1 and 3-0 in ACC play. It's hard to think if Pitt were still in the Big East that they would have gone this long without being ranked, however that's something ... Read More

LaSalle Contains Soko and Offense, Duquesne Falls 75-56
Pittsburgh – In what Coach Ferry would dub a “tale of two halves,” LaSalle (9-6, 2-0) pulled away from Duquesne (8-6, 1-1) in the second half, to hand the Dukes their first conference loss of the season. The 56 points for Duquesne, which came on 24 percent shooting in the second half, marks a season low. Although disappointed in his team’s flat second half, Ferry had nothing but praise for his opponent. “They didn’t get rattled. It was a great environment and we got a lead on them, and they ...
