You guys remember Steven Adams? Of course you do. He’s the guy who left early to chase his NBA dream. He was the one and done, and he got a fair share of criticism for that. He gets drafted 12th overall by the Oklahoma City Thunder. Yeah that team with Kevin Durant that will contend for championships for years to come. But how dare he leave Pitt, right? I mean, there is no danger in playing another year, just ask Kevin Ware. Steven Adams is not ready for the NBA, right? As the saying goes, you ... Read More
Pitt Panthers Notebook: James Robinson help Team USA U19 Team to Championship
With not much new going on around the Pitt Panthers football and basketball teams this time of year, I'm back with my Pitt Panthers notebook to take a quick spin around Pitt's athletic programs. Perhaps the biggest news going on over the course of the past couple of weeks came in the form of Pitt freshman guard James Robinson, who helped Team USA capture the FIBA U19 World Championship Gold Medal with an 82-68 win over Serbia in Sunday’s title game. The victory gave the United States its ... Read More
Pitt Women Add Two
Suzie McConnell-Serio looked to one of the strongest programs in the state of Pennsylvania over the past several years to pick up her first two recruits at Pitt by getting verbal commitments from Naje Gibson and Cassidy Walsh this past week. Both Gibson and Walsh play at Seton LaSalle High School and have been starters since they have been freshmen. Seton Las Salle is one of the strongest girl’s basketball programs in the state of Pennsylvania and have only lost two games in the past two ... Read More
Pitt’s Steven Adams selected by OKC Thunder with 12th overall pick
Anyone that was still wondering if Pitt's Steven Adams made the right decision when he declared for the 2013 NBA Draft got their answer Thursday night. Yes he did. After one season as a Panther, the much heralded Adams turned himself into a lottery pick when the Oklahoma City Thunder selected him with the No. 12 overall pick. Adams becomes the first Pitt player drafted in the first round since the Indiana Pacers selected Vonteego Cummings at No. 26 in 1999. His selection at No. 12 marks ... Read More
Lady Panthers head into a new era with a new coach and conference
In 2007, the University of Pittsburgh women's basketball team reached the NCAA tournament for the first time in school history, making it to the second round before losing to eventual champion Tennessee. In 2008 and 2009, the Panthers reached the Sweet 16 under Head Coach Agnus Berenato who took over the Lady Panthers in 2003. The future of the program looked bright and many media members and opposing coaches began talking about the Panthers program as being a sleeping giant in women's college ... Read More
Pitt Panthers Notebook: Devin Street takes on leadership role and more
With it being the slowest time of year in terms of Pitt athletics- that time of year before summer camp for the football team and before Jamie Dixon’s basketball team even thinks of getting started- now is a great time to unveil my weekly Pitt Panthers notebook, recapping the week in Pitt athletics. With that being said, let's not waste any time and look at Pitt wide receiver Devin Street, who could be taking on a new leadership role with the team this season. One problem with having Tino ... Pitt gives AD Pederson 5-year extension
In an expected move, but one that won't necessarily make all Pitt Panthers fans happy, the program made it official Tuesday afternoon- athletic director Steve Pederson isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Pederson received a five-year contract extension that will keep him in his present position through the 2017-2018 academic year, Chancellor Mark Nordenberg said Tuesday. He's not the most popular guy on campus, but Pederson has done a lot in his time at Pitt, most recently helping the Panthers ... Read More

Pitt’s Travon Woodall to work out for Washington Wizards
While all the attention in June's NBA Draft will go to freshman center Steven Adams, another former Panther is still holding onto dreams of playing in the NBA. Former Pitt point guard Tray Woodall is scheduled to work out for the Washington Wizards on Tuesday, his first workout with any NBA team. Woodall is coming off a highly productive career with the Panthers where he played in 139 games in five seasons, including 10 as a freshman in what would be a redshirt season due to injury. He ... Barry Rohrssen rejoins Pitt basketball staff
Pitt head coach Jamie Dixon is making a change to his coaching staff for the 2013-14 season and bringing back a familiar name in the process. Barry Rohrssen will rejoin Dixon's staff as an assistant coach, replacing Pat Sandle. Sandle was an original member of Dixon's staff and spent the past decade with the program. Rohrssen was a member of Pitt's staff from 2001-06, serving under both Dixon and Ben Howland. He was Dixon's associate head coach from 2004-06 before accepting the head ... Read More
