When sophomore sensation T.J. McConnell, along with Mike Talley and Danny Herrera decided to leave Duquesne this past off-season, Coach Ferry was left with just two potential leaders – Andre Marhold and Sean Johnson. Although not an ideal situation given the talent that walked out, it was almost a given that Ferry could count on Johnson. Last season, his first as a starter, Johnson finished second on the team with 13.5 points per game and led the team with 42 3-point field goals. This season, ... Read More
Pitt flicks the switch in rout of South Florida
In Pitt’s victory Sunday over St. Johns, it looked like the Panthers simply flicked a switch to heat up at both ends of the floor in the second half. They flicked that same switch Wednesday night against South Florida. After struggling offensively for much of the game, the Panthers turned it on in the second half in a 64-44 Big East Conference victory. Trailing 30-28 in the second half with just under 16 minutes remaining, and shooting only 27.6 percent for the game, the Panthers ... Read More
Tray Woodall leads desperate Pitt team to win over St. Johns
After back-to-back bad loses for No. 20 Pitt, the Panthers were a team desperate for a strong showing Sunday afternoon against St. Johns. Playing in their home away from home- Madison Square Garden- Pitt showed the desperation of a team needing to get back on track in a dominating 63-47 victory over the Red Storm. A lot of that was due to the performance of senior point guard Tray Woodall, who set the tone early on with a three-pointer to give the Panthers a 3-0 lead. A Brooklyn native ... Read More
Duquesne Fails to Execute Late in 78-71 Loss
Pittsburgh – The new black uniforms failed to change Duquesne’s losing ways Saturday night at the A.J. Palumbo Center. Going up against a St. Bonaventure squad that was on the cusp of qualifying for the 12-team Atlantic-10 tournament, Ferry knew it would be a hard contest. But as well as Duquesne played for most of the second half, they couldn’t get the shots or the rebounds when they mattered most. “I thought we came out a little sluggish in the first half, I thought we let St. Bonaventure ... One More Time: A Season of Unpredictability
Over the past 5 weeks the number 1 team in the country has lost each week. Countless other teams in the top 25 have been upset. They must be beaten up on each other right? Wrong, in the world of college basketball uncertainty and upsets are the only things constants. A last place team in conference beat the top team in the conference, done (TCU over Kansas). A team that previously lost to Columbia by double-digits beat 2 top-5 teams in one week, done (Villanova over Louisville and Syracuse). And ... Read More

Duquesne Falls to Rhode Island at Home, 67-62
In the initial moments of the game, it seemed as though Duquesne (8-17, 1-10) would have their way with Rhode Island (8-16, 3-8). But in the end, they weren’t able to channel their momentum into a win. The Dukes were able to get off to a strong 11-4 lead to start the game before URI hit two 3-pointers to cut the lead to one. After that, no team was able to hold a commanding advantage for the remainder of play. Late in the game, Duquesne had the ball with a 58-58 score. But a turnover and ... Read More
Late first half run dooms Panthers in loss to Marquette
It is often said that the final four minutes of the first half and the first four minutes of the second half are the two most important stretches of a game. That theory held true Saturday afternoon in Marquette as the No. 18 Golden Eagles blitzed No. 16 Pitt with a 17-2 combined run over that span to cruise to a 79-69 Big East Conference victory. A big problem for the Panthers was Marquette’s Vander Blue, who scored 18 first half points and led a balanced Golden Eagles attack that couldn’t ... Read More
