For the second straight week, Lucky Jones has been a producer. The Colonials went 1-1 this week in a week where Pittsburgh sports all saw about the same results. Jones started off the week with an 83-79 overtime victory over Wagner last Saturday. He scored 21 points, 6 of which came in overtime, on 4 of 6 shooting. He added 5 boards and 3 steals to his stat sheet before the night was over. He shot a perfect 2 for 2 from behind the arc and made 11 of 12 from the charity stripe while carrying RMU ... Read More
Dukes Break Losing Streak With 84-83 Win Over Temple
Duquesne picked up its first win in almost two months Thursday night over Temple at the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia. Andre Marhold finished with a career high 15 rebounds and Derrick Colter hit a pair of free throws with 2.9 seconds left to give the Dukes a narrow victory. This was the first time Duquesne (8-16, 1-9) beat Temple (16-8, 5-5) at the Liacouras Center. Both teams held large leads during the game. Duquesne held an 11 point lead midway through the first half, while Temple held ... Read More
Pitt’s Steven Adams resembling legitimate NBA prospect
Coming into the season many felt that incoming Pitt freshman center Steven Adams could be a one-and-done type of player. Adams had the attention of many NBA scouts before he even played a game in a Pitt uniform and given his size and massive wingspan, it wouldn't be a surprise to see him head for the greener pastures after only one season of collegiate ball. But things didn't exactly start that way for Adams as early in the season he resembled a lost freshman, much more than he did a ... Read More
Last Conference Matchup Between Duquesne and Temple
For the duration of time that Temple and Duquesne have competed against each other in the Atlantic-10, the games between the schools have been quite lopsided. Thursday night will mark the last conference meeting between Temple (16-7, 5-4) and Duquesne (7-16, 0-9).Temple will officially enter Big East play in basketball next season. Duquesne has won just three of the past 19 meetings with the Owls. The Dukes are also 5-21 when playing the Owls in Philadelphia. On Thursday, they will be playing ... Read More
Streaky Dukes Fall to Xavier, 73-65
The intensity in practice for Duquesne didn’t slow down, but picked up in the days between Wednesday night’s crushing loss to George Washington and Saturday night’s game against Xavier. Coach Ferry ran his team through a few days’ worth of physically rigorous drills in preparation for their game against the Musketeers at Consol Energy Center. We know Ferry isn’t giving up. From his team’s performance Saturday night, we know they aren’t ready to give up just yet either, despite the eleven-game ... Read More
Yinzer of the Week: RMU’s Lucky Jones
While Robert Morris' basketball team continues to fly under the radar, Lucky Jones continues to quietly put up numbers. This past week with two wins over St. Francis (PA) and LIU Brooklyn, Jones averaged 15.5 points and 5.5 assists. Wednesday night he was perfect from the floor, shooting 3-3 from the field and 13-13 from the free throw line. He's the first player to be completely perfect since Louisville's Samardo Samuels did it back in 2010. The game before going 100 percent from the field, he ... Read More
No Love for Duquesne’s Marhold, Forwards
The last game Andre Marhold started for Duquesne was the January 19th blowout loss against VCU. He hasn’t received more than fifteen minutes of playing time since. Against GW Wednesday night, he was on the court for a mere six minutes. But his playing time had suffered long before this. Marhold has gone from starter to reserve in less than a week. One thing is for certain, he is getting no love from his coach right now. After the George Washington game, Ferry was asked whether or not the ... Read More
Coach Ferry Embarrassed by Team’s Performance in 79-57 Loss
Pittsburgh—Sometimes when you think there is nowhere to go but up, the unthinkable happens. Coming off a nine game losing streak, I’m sure some people around the Duquesne basketball program were thinking such hopelessly positive thoughts before the George Washington game. The end result of the game, however, was another confidence hit for Duquesne’s players and a much-needed apology from Coach Ferry. “I apologize to the fans for having to watch this game, I’m embarrassed. This is the worst ... Read More
Duquesne’s Best Chance of Breaking Losing Streak Arises
Duquesne is set to begin a two-game home stand starting Wednesday against George Washington (10-10, 4-3) at the Palumbo Center and ending this Saturday against Xavier (12-9, 5-3) at Consol Energy Center. The best chance they have of breaking their nine-game losing streak comes against George Washington on Wednesday. There is no question that the Dukes (7-14, 0-7) will be desperate for a win, but some things will need to be done in order for them to maximize their chances of achieving the desired ... Read More
Pitt uses strong second half to knock off Seton Hall
Coming off their best win of the season Saturday against Syracuse, No. 23 Pitt had to be careful not to fall victim to the classic "trap game" Monday night against the struggling Seton Hall Pirates. For 30 minutes, they nearly fell into that trap. The Panthers broke open a 36-34 game at the 10 minute mark of the second half, by going on a 20-12 run to escape with a 56-46 win to improve to 19-5 on the season and 7-4 in Big East Conference play. Pitt had problems getting into a rhythm for ... Read More
