It has been a surprisingly good season for the Pitt Panthers women’s basketball team this season. After being picked to finish last in the ACC, the Pitt women finished the regular season 19-11 (9-7 ACC) and could be on the cusp of making the NCAA Tournament. Two PSAC West teams battled for 40 minutes to decide who would take home the title in the PSAC men's basketball tournament on Sunday and it took every one of those minutes to decide a winner. IUP moves on to PSAC title game with win over East Stroudsburg
Indiana University of Pennsylvania is looking to win its 10th PSAC title on Sunday after the Crimson Hawks cruised to victory over East Stroudsburg 76-60 in its semifinal battle on Saturday. In the win, IUP shot 69 percent in the second half, led by Shawn Dyer's game-high 20 points. The Crimson Hawks weren't red hot throughout the game, though, as they struggled mightily in the first half, shooting just 35 percent from the field. Duquesne (11-17, 6-11) defeated Fordham (9-19, 4-13) 81-66 last night at the Rose Hill Gym in Bronx, Ny in posting nearly 50 percent from behind the arc. IUP’s Devante Chance named PSAC West Player of the Year
IUP's starting point guard Devante Chance has earned PSAC West Player of the Year honors, capping off what surely was an impressive senior season. Chance averages 16.2 points per game from his point guard position while dishing out 6.0 assists per night. Earlier this season he became just the fourth player in IUP history to score 1,000 points and dish out 400 assists in his career. The Pitt Panthers did not want to disappoint Cameron Wright, Derrick Randall and Aron Phillips-Nwankwo with a loss in their final home game and also wanted to strengthen its NCAA Tournament resume.
