Josh Newkirk lifts Pitt over Boston College in overtime
Coming off a very disappointing start to the ACC season on Saturday, the Pitt Panthers had to come out of Boston College with a win at all cost. Thanks to Josh Newkirk the Panthers rallied in the second half to force overtime and eventually came away with a 61-60 victory, their first conference win of the season. After a rather slow start to the season, the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets men’s’ basketball team has picked things up as of late, mostly riding the shoulders of senior forward Jason Propst. After leading the Yellow Jackets to a 2-1 mark during the week, averaging a team-high 15.3 points per game, Propst was named the PAC Player of the Week. Duquesne (5-7, 0-1) fell to Dayton (11-2, 1-0) 81-55 in their Atlantic 10 opener Saturday at the UD Arena in Dayton, Ohio. Dayton’s sophomore guard Kyle Davis scored a game-high 17 points in leading the Flyers to a victory over the Dukes, who scored their second fewest points in a game this season next to a 52-point performance against Saint Francis on Dec. 17. Conditioning lifts Darius Lewis to success for Dukes
Duquesne’s sophomore center Darius Lewis is not only the tallest player on the roster at 6-11, 255 pounds; he also has one of the biggest success stories around. The Lexington, Kentucky native signed with the Dukes in April 2013 to become the fifth member of the 2013-14 recruiting class.
