Pittsburgh – Duquesne (9-9, 2-4) won in the most dramatic fashion, 83-81, Saturday night at the A.J. Palumbo Center on a last second 3-point heave by Derrick Colter. The sophomore point guard’s runner with a hand in the face came after Colter missed two free throws with four seconds left in the game that would have put the Dukes up by one. “I should have made the free throws first, that just made me mad. I could have hit the two free throws to win the game,” Colter said afterwards. After his ... Read More
Saint Louis Snatches Upset From Duquesne In Final Minute
Pittsburgh – Duquesne (8-9, 1-5) was just a few shots away from grabbing national attention and upsetting #19 Saint Louis (18-2, 5-0). The game will go down as their fourth straight loss, even though the players played their hearts out. Ferry, who spent two days preparing his team on exactly how to beat the Billikens defense, was pleased that his team never lost confidence. “I think they played with great confidence, right down to the end,” Ferry said. That confidence showed in the later ... Read More
Stifled: What’s Been Going on With Duquesne’s Offense?
After a five-game win streak and a high-flying start to Atlantic 10 play, Duquesne’s offense has gone through a bit of a rough patch during the past three games. They have only broken seventy in one of those contests – and that was after playing their worst first half of the season in a game against Saint Joe’s. To make matters worse, the Hawks were lacking the presence of starting forward Ronald Roberts, a household name on Hawk Hill, along with sixth man Isaiah Miles. An important ... Read More

Golden Knight of the Week: Adam Blazek
Coming into the week, the Gannon Golden Knights were looking at an 8-7 record. By week's end, they were at 10-7 with a win over the No. 5 team in the country and picked up two wins over conference foes to move up in the PSAC West standings. During those two games, Adam Blazek was key. Blazek's numbers don't jump off of the stat sheet as outstanding, but they got the job done. In a 67-61 victory over No. 5 IUP, Blazek scored 13 points. With the Golden Knights down two with under a minute left ... Read More
VCU Pulls Away Late to Beat Duquesne
Duquesne suffered its third loss in a row Saturday afternoon when they visited VCU in Richmond. The Dukes (8-8, 1-3) hung with the Rams for most of the game, but fell farther behind with under eight minutes to play. Even though Duquesne led 31-27 at the half, the Rams were able to pick up their 14th straight home win. VCU led by just five with around eight minutes to play, but pulled away when JeQuan Lewis knocked down two straight 3-pointer to kick off a 22-8 run that blew the visitors ... Read More
Pitt edged out by No. 2 Syracuse in first ACC loss
No. 22 Pitt and No. 2 Syracuse hooked things up Saturday afternoon in what was the early ACC Game of the Year. Watching the two teams play, it was an ACC game in name early as for 40 minutes it seemed liked just another Big East Conference battle as it turned out to be another Pitt-Syracuse classic. However Syracuse freshman point guard Tyler Ennis played like a senior down the stretch, making two big baskets and sinking two huge free-throws as the Orange stayed unbeaten, handing Pitt ... Recap: Late Run for Duquesne Falls Way Short
Duquesne (8-7) went on a 30-2 run in the final 4:49 of the basketball game Wednesday night in Philadelphia against St. Joseph’s, but it wasn’t nearly enough to give them the victory. If anyone would have told coach Ferry before the game that his team would go on that kind of a hot streak, but still lose the game 84-75, he would have been beside himself. The loss puts an end to Duquesne’s three-game road win streak and is the Dukes’ second straight loss to an A-10 opponent, dropping their ... Read More
Pitt’s unselfishness continues to carry team
Throughout Jamie Dixon's era as the Pitt head coach, we have heard the fact that Pitt is an unselfish and defensive minded team about a thousand times. That mantra has carried the Panthers to outstanding success over the past decade plus, but during Pitt's first season in the ACC, they are taking playing unselfish, great team basketball to another level. One of the reasons that Dixon's teams have always relied on unselfish play is they never really had a go-to guy at the offensive end that ... Read More
