As Jamie Dixon’s Pitt Panthers basketball team prepares to begin its inaugural ACC season, the anthers could be in for quite the transition. For the Panthers to find themselves among the ACC’s best teams at seasons end, they have to get back to doing one thing- playing great defense. On the surface, Pitt’s defense was a typical good Panthers defense last season as they allowed only 0.94 points allowed per possession, which was good for third in the Big East Conference. However if you ... Read More

Following a successful season that saw them stun the college basketball world by knocking off defending national champion Kentucky in the first round of the NIT, the Robert Morris Colonials will look to carry that momentum forward as they look to turn last season’s huge win into a tournament bid. The Colonials, who have not won an NCAA tourney game since 1983, were last season’s Northeast Conference regular season champs, but they were unable to clinch the automatic bid, falling in the ... Pitt Panthers will have a fresh look this year
Following a disappointing second round blowout loss to the eventual West Regional winner, Wichita State, the Pitt basketball program went into this past offseason with a lot of questions and relatively few answers. Two of the team’s leading scorers and overall contributors, center Steven Adams and wing J.J. Moore, left shortly after the season. Adams is now competing with former UConn big man Hasheem Thabeet for a rotation spot with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Moore was granted immediate ... Read More

Pitt Panthers Notebook: Tray Woodall to Play in Istanbul
The 2013 NBA Draft and NBA Summer League came and went without hearing the name Tray Woodall. Despite working out for a couple NBA franchises, it doesn't look as if there is a fit in the NBA at this time for the former Pitt point guard. With that being said, that doesn't mean Woodall won't be playing professionally next season as he has signed a deal to play with a team in Istanbul. That's good to hear as Woodall got much better during his time in a Panthers uniform and emerged as a ... Read More

What if?
Throughout life, we find ourselves asking the question, "what if" to numerous topics. As it pertains to sports, there are a lot of these moments. What if Roberto Clemente never hopped on the plane to Managua to provide supplies to victims of the earthquake? What if Barry Sanders and Jim Brown didn't retire in the prime of their career. Would they be No. 1 and No. 2 on the all-time rushing list instead of Emmitt Smith and Walter Payton? What if Twitter or social media sites were around ... Read More
Steven Adams’ Journey
You guys remember Steven Adams? Of course you do. He’s the guy who left early to chase his NBA dream. He was the one and done, and he got a fair share of criticism for that. He gets drafted 12th overall by the Oklahoma City Thunder. Yeah that team with Kevin Durant that will contend for championships for years to come. But how dare he leave Pitt, right? I mean, there is no danger in playing another year, just ask Kevin Ware. Steven Adams is not ready for the NBA, right? As the saying goes, you ... Read More
Pitt Panthers Notebook: James Robinson help Team USA U19 Team to Championship
With not much new going on around the Pitt Panthers football and basketball teams this time of year, I'm back with my Pitt Panthers notebook to take a quick spin around Pitt's athletic programs. Perhaps the biggest news going on over the course of the past couple of weeks came in the form of Pitt freshman guard James Robinson, who helped Team USA capture the FIBA U19 World Championship Gold Medal with an 82-68 win over Serbia in Sunday’s title game. The victory gave the United States its ... Read More
Pitt Women Add Two
Suzie McConnell-Serio looked to one of the strongest programs in the state of Pennsylvania over the past several years to pick up her first two recruits at Pitt by getting verbal commitments from Naje Gibson and Cassidy Walsh this past week. Both Gibson and Walsh play at Seton LaSalle High School and have been starters since they have been freshmen. Seton Las Salle is one of the strongest girl’s basketball programs in the state of Pennsylvania and have only lost two games in the past two ... Read More
