Pitt proves its mettle in upset over No. 6 Syracuse
Many have said that the Pitt Panthers basketball team was a product of a soft schedule and really hasn’t beaten anyone this season. Those critics can’t say that anymore after Jamie Dixon’s team defeated No. 6 Syracuse 65-55 Saturday in front of a packed house at the Petersen Events Center. It was an old-school performance from the Panthers, who played as physical of a game as they have had in years, dominating the glass holding a 39-24 rebounding edge. “I was obviously happy with the ... Free-Throws continue to haunt Pitt
As the Pitt Panthers prepare to host No. 6 Syracuse Saturday afternoon at the Petersen Events Center, head coach Jamie Dixon has to find a way to correct the Panthers biggest weakness- free-throw shooting. It seems like forever since a Panthers team could knock down their free-throws consistently and one day you knew it would cost them in a big way, which it did in the NCAA Tournament two years ago against Butler when Gilbert Brown missed a free-throw that would have given the Panthers a ... What Exactly is Happening with Duquesne?
The Dukes have lost their past eight games and ten of their past thirteen. Marhold, one of the senior leaders, has been benched for underperforming. The team’s two star players, Colter and Johnson were each held to two points last weekend at Dayton. So what is really going on with Duquesne? How can we account for the lengthy losing streak, the inability to finish games, and the inconsistencies from one half to the next? Perhaps it all boils down to the inexperience. But it is debatable as to ... Read More

The second half had a decent finish and Pitt made a game out of it, but they couldn't pull it off. The Panthers ... Read More

Everything went Pitt’s way from the opening tip as the Panthers cruised to a 93-55 victory, setting a school record for largest Big East Conference victory in program ... Read More
Dukes Feeling Down After 73-64 Loss to Saint Louis
Pittsburgh—The game was much closer than what the scoreboard read after the final buzzer. On defense, Duquesne took measures to slow down the 3-point shooting of the Billikens’ guards, Kwamain Mitchell and Mike McCall. For the most part, they succeeded. However, free throws and turnovers ultimately were responsible for the Dukes’ seventh straight defeat. “That was a tough loss, our guys are really down right now,” Coach Ferry admitted. Duquesne guarded well on defense until the final minutes ... Read More
Lamar Patterson stepping up to ignite Pitt offense
The Pitt Panthers have always been a team known for playing defense and this 2012-13 version of the Panthers is no exception to that rule. After holding the Providence Friars to 64 points in Pitt's 68-64 victory on Tuesday, the Panthers have held 19 of their 20 opponents on the season under 70 points. But while defense is still the backbone of Jamie Dixon's program, they still need a potent enough offense to win games. When it comes to scoring the basketball, Pitt's biggest strength is ...
