For a little over a year now, Penn State University has been under heavy scrutiny after the Jerry Sandusky child sex-abuse scandal. People were withholding information, most notably, legendary head coach, Joe Paterno, who passed away in early 2012. Somebody had to take the reins after Paterno was at the helm for 46 seasons. That somebody was Bill O’Brien who just got a pay raise of close to $1 million. O’Brien’s deal could be worth $3.2 million dollars after compensation from all the radio ... Read More
Panthers land 3 for class of 2014
The only way Paul Chryst and the Pitt Panthers will ever consistently compete in the ACC is to continuously improve in terms of recruiting. The Panthers came away with a very nice 2013 class and Chryst has wasted little time in beginning to assemble a nice class for the following year, by adding three nice pieces over the course of the past two days. Pitt received verbal commitments Tuesday from quarterback Adam Bertke, a two-time state champion at Marion Local (Ohio) High School, and ... Read More
Pitt Panthers Notebook: Devin Street takes on leadership role and more
With it being the slowest time of year in terms of Pitt athletics- that time of year before summer camp for the football team and before Jamie Dixon’s basketball team even thinks of getting started- now is a great time to unveil my weekly Pitt Panthers notebook, recapping the week in Pitt athletics. With that being said, let's not waste any time and look at Pitt wide receiver Devin Street, who could be taking on a new leadership role with the team this season. One problem with having Tino ... Pitt gives AD Pederson 5-year extension
In an expected move, but one that won't necessarily make all Pitt Panthers fans happy, the program made it official Tuesday afternoon- athletic director Steve Pederson isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Pederson received a five-year contract extension that will keep him in his present position through the 2017-2018 academic year, Chancellor Mark Nordenberg said Tuesday. He's not the most popular guy on campus, but Pederson has done a lot in his time at Pitt, most recently helping the Panthers ... Read More
Ray Graham, other Pitt players sign free agent deals
For the second consecutive year, the NFL Draft came and went without a Pitt Panthers player hearing his name called. Running back Ray Graham had the best chance of being drafted, but he had to sit by and wait as running back after running back went off the board during the third day of the draft, but never heard his name called. It's not the worst thing though for Graham and other former Panthers that has aspirations of playing in the NFL. Sometimes going undrafted benefits the player ... Read More

Three members of the University of Pittsburgh football team have been suspended after being detained by police Thursday night in a drug bust in Oakland. Police identified the three players as 20-year-old linebacker Eric Williams, 21-year-old tight end Andrew Carswell, and 21-year-old defensive linemen Khaynin Mosley-Smith. Pitt head coach Paul Chryst announced the players have been suspended from the team immediately. “We have strict and clear standards regarding these types of ... Read More
Pitt’s Ray Graham hoping to hear name called in NFL Draft
With the 2013 NFL Draft only a day away, it won't be a good day for the University of Pittsburgh, a school that usually produces a few NFL players per year. It will be a long wait for Roger Goodell to utter the words "From the University of Pittsburgh," as only running back Ray Graham is expected to hear his name called during this draft. When Graham's name will be called is anyone's guess though. Last year was the first year since 1999 that no Pitt player was chosen in the draft and ... Read More

Yes, you're seeing that right. The new name for the college football playoff series is just that: College Football Playoff. A spokesperson for the NCAA made it clear that the goal of the name was to get as far away from BCS (Bowl Championship Series) as possible. Well, if BCS is a Lamborghini, CFP is a 1963 ... Read More
Rushel Shell to transfer to UCLA
It looks as if the Rushel Shell saga has come to an end for the Pitt football program. Multiple media outlets have reported that Shell has decided to officially transfer to UCLA confirming what we knew earlier and that his intentions were to head out west. Last month, Pittsburgh announced that Shell was taking some time away from football to "work through some challenges," then two days later officially filed his transfer papers Shell requested a release from his scholarship to Arizona State, ... Chad Voytik, Isaac Bennett open up eyes during Pitt spring game
Many people feel that is a forgone conclusion that Tom Savage will be under center when the Pitt Panthers open up the 2013 season at Heinz Field against Florida State. Apparently Chad Voytik didn’t get the memo. Pitt head coach Paul Chryst has insisted that the quarterback battle is still wide open and if Friday night's spring game is any indication, Voytik could find himself right in the mix for the job. The redshirt freshman completed 27-of-33 passes for 358 yards and three scores ... Read More
