IUP posted a top 10 finish in 2012 with a record of 12-2 and 6-1 in the PSAC West for a first place finish in the division. The Mercyhurst and Gannon football teams have both agreed to renew the Battle for the Niagara Cup with a game on Thursday, October 17 at Erie Veterans Memorial Stadium. Football season is almost here, and with that comes preseason awards. Several publications announced their preseason All-Americans this past week and two teams from the PSAC West landed players on the list. Cal U landed one player on the Lindy's and Sporting News lists while Slippery Rock landed five on the 25th Annual USA College Football Division II list. A unanimous vote today by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Board of Directors officially accepted the Seton Hill Griffins and Pitt-Johnstown Mountain Cats as members of the conference. Thomas Mayo embracing new opportunity in the NFL
Last season, Thomas Mayo had an opportunity to go from Cal U and make the Oakland Raiders' squad. Unfortunately he was released when the preseason came. After a brief stint in the Arena Football League, Mayo, again, finds himself on an NFL roster, this time with the New York Jets. Former IUP head coach Frank Cignetti can now add "Hall of Famer" to his list of career achievements. Cignetti is ranked as the winningest coach in IUP history. He led his team to back-to-back PSAC titles in just his first two seasons as the head coach and then enjoyed a twenty-year career with IUP.
