When the Washington & Jefferson Presidents take the field Saturday afternoon against Wooster to begin a quest for their third consecutive Presidents’ Athletic Conference championship, something will be a little different for Mike Sirianni’s team. W&J will be really young. “We are as young as we have been in my 12 years here,” said Sirianni. “We have only 10 seniors on the whole team. But we have a lot of talent.” Despite having the youngest team that Sirianni has ever had in his ... Read More
PSAC West Pigskin Preview: Seton Hill
A 1-10 start was not how the Seton Hill football envisioned its 2013 season, its first year of playing football in the PSAC. Now, another year older and more accustomed to the PSAC West, the Griffins hope to secure some wins. Seton Hill received a decent season from redshirt sophomore quarterback Nick Halfhill, who appeared in 10 games for the Griffins last season. Halfhill threw for 1,002 yards and nine touchdowns for an offense which saw eight different players attempt passes. Halfhill ... Read More
James Conner feels the time is Now for Pitt
If you are around Paul Chryst’s Pitt Panthers football team, there is something different about the Panthers this season. While Pitt is one of the youngest teams in the entire nation, there is a certain confidence in that locker room right now that hasn’t been seen nor felt in the past few years. None of that has to really do with their 62-0 rout of Delaware to open the season. While that was certainly a nice way to start the season, this Panthers team has bigger goals in mind for the 2014 ... Read More
ACC Power Rankings: Looking at how teams stack up after Week 1
With one week of the college football season now in the books, it’s time to take a look at how the ACC stacks up in my latest ACC Power Rankings. Who has moved up and who has moved down after one week? Let’s take a look. 1. Florida State (1-0, defeated Oklahoma State 37-31, Last Week’s Rank- 1) The defending national champs weren’t dominant by any stretch of the imagination. But they beat a decent team and are still the ACC’s most talented team. Up Next: Saturday vs. the ... Read More
Former Pitt DB Trenton Coles transfers to Duquesne
It didn’t take former Pitt cornerback Trenton Coles a long time to land at a new school. After announcing his decision to transfer from Pitt during training camp, the Clairton product has announced that he will enroll at Duquesne. Coles will be eligible to play immediately for the Dukes and was scheduled to practice on Tuesday. Coles appeared in all 11 games for the Panthers last season as a freshman and began training camp with Pitt on Aug. 3 as a projected starter. He injured his ... Read More
Tyler Boyd practices; other Pitt news
Pitt Panthers fans got some good news on Tuesday when sophomore wide receiver Tyler Boyd was back on the practice field. The guy who running back James Conner called “the best wide receiver in college football,” gave the Panthers and their fans a scare when he dislocated a finger on his left hand returning a punt in Saturday’s 62-0 victory against Delaware. All signs point to Boyd being ready to go when Pitt travels to Boston College on Friday. “He practiced yesterday and he’ll practice ... Read More
PSAC West Pigskin Preview: Edinboro
Coming off a rather disappointing 5-6 season in 2013, Edinboro is hoping to get off to a much better start in 2014. After posting back-to-back losing seasons, the Fighting Scots have a daunting schedule ahead of them. After being faced with a plethora of injuries a year ago, Edinboro never seemed to find a rhythm on the offensive side of the ball. After Cody Harris was injured, Jon Girvin stepped in at quarterback for the Fighting Scots. Between the two of them they accrued 2,114 passing ... Read More
Instant Analysis: Pitt Clicks On All Cylinders Against Delaware
Pitt completely annihilated the Delaware Blue Hens on Saturday afternoon, scoring the most points ever at Heinz Field, with a 62-0 route. Looking back, here are my takeaway points from the blowout: 1. Pitt did what it was supposed to against a FCS opponent. It was the first time Delaware was shut out since 1996 (220 games). This was a much better outcome than two years ago against Youngstown State, where Pitt looked lethargic under senior QB Tino Sunseri and lost 31-17. 2. It is nice to see ... Read More
Duquesne K Austin Crimmins earns NEC honor
The Duquesne Dukes upset bid of FBS Buffalo on Saturday fell a bit short as the Dukes opened the 2014 campaign with a 38-28 loss. However despite the defeat, Dukes’ kicker Austin Crimmins earned himself a Northeast Conference honor. The sophomore blasted two of his five kickoffs for touchbacks, holding Buffalo to only 20.3 yards per return, and went 4-for-4 on PAT’s. That was enough to earn Crimmins Special Teams Player of the Week honors for the season’s opening week. After Duquesne ... Read More
Pitt offfensive line hoping to build off dominant Week 1 performance
Looking back at Pitt’s big opening week win against Delaware, there was plenty to like about the Panthers opening 62-0 victory. The Panthers played as near a perfect game as they have in quite some time, but it was the offensive line that set the tone. That’s an offensive line that came into the season surrounded by question marks and while the opponent was only the FCS’ Blue Hens, the Pitt offensive line passed with flying colors. At the minimum that is an encouraging sign heading ... Read More
