Five players scored in double figures Saturday in the Duquesne Dukes’ home win against Abilene Christian University. In the first game for both teams, sophomore point guard Derrick Colter led all scorers with 23 points. Duquesne wasted no time in jumping on their opponents, opening up a 12-0 lead at the hands of four ACU turnovers. An Ovie Soko dunk made it 34-11 with 7:51 left in the first half. Bullying in sports is taught at an early age
In a workplace or environment where it's encouraged to intimidate and dominate your competition both physically and mentally, bullying is taught in sports from day one. Recreational leagues are a common place for bullying your competition, to weaken their confidence and to gain the upper hand on your opponent. When I became a writer for Pittsburgh Sporting News, my fellow colleagues were quick to point out that thick skin was highly recommended in this position. This statement couldn't be ... Read More
Duquesne Men’s Basketball Season Preview
Once again this year, the Duquesne basketball program faced a disheartening offseason that saw the departure of five players who all saw action last season. Forward Quevyn Winters, a dead-eye from beyond the arc last year, decided to transfer closer to home, citing family reasons. Winters averaged 9.6 points and 22 minutes per game last season. The other players to leave include centers Martins Abele and Derrick Martin, along with point guard Marvin Binney and sophomore small forward Kadeem ... Read More
Steelers reports card after loss to Raiders
This took almost a half day to comprehend, but after another ugly loss to the Oakland Raiders, this time a 21-18 defeat to drop the Pittsburgh Steelers to 2-5 on the season, I'm back with my weekly Steelers report card. Just later in the day than usual. The Steelers fell in a hole from the first play of the game on thanks to a 93-yard touchdown run from Raiders' quarterback Terrelle Pryor and thanks to a ton of gaffes along the way, never recovered. Thanks to a late rally the ... Read More
Kris Letang: The anchor of the Pens defense
This is really going to tick off the female fan base. Those ladies and girls that just kind of go to the Consol Energy Center because it's the cool place to be seen, and because they think Kris Letang is "hot." But Kris Letang is indeed the anchor of the Penguins defense. And in anchor, I mean he brings the team down. Is it any coincidence that the Penguins have lost two in a row since Letang's return? No, it's not all his fault, but the defense seemed to have a more simple approach without ... Read More
Fighting Scot of the Week: Jon Girvin
Edinboro upset #22 ranked IUP this past Saturday in what coach Scott Browning called one of the biggest victories in his eight-year career as a head coach. To do that, they had a strong defense but also received some tremendous play from their redshirt-freshman quarterback, Jon Girvin. With his team down 6-0 to start the second quarter, Girvin tossed a 26-yard pass to Jordan Williams to connect for a score and tied the game at six. Later with the scored tied 13-13, Girvin again excited the ... Read More

Pittsburgh Pirates win game number 81, end 20-year streak
Tonight, the Pittsburgh Pirates made history. They ended history. They ended the worst streak in professional sports history. 20 years of forgettable baseball in Pittsburgh is over. With the Pirates 4-3 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers tonight, the Pirates have officially broken the streak of 20 consecutive losing seasons. If I had to choose for the streak to end anywhere other than PNC Park, I would pick Miller Park, and that's exactly where it ended tonight. All the awful games at Miller ... Read More
