PITTSBURGH -- Playing in their first preseason overtime game since 1986, the Steelers lost their third game of the preseason by a score of 26-20. The Steelers jumped to a 3-0 lead, as Shaun Suisham knocked down a 28-yard field goal on the team's opening drive. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and wide receiver Antonio Brown connected on a 49-yard completion on the second play from scrimmage to help set up great field position. The following drive, Kansas City was set up with a fourth and one ... Read More
The Steelers should give Casey Hampton a ring
The Pittsburgh Steelers have some questions along their front defensive line heading into the 2013 season. Last season, the Pittsburgh Steelers waited till July when they decided to bring back Max Starks, who wasn't activated till mid August to give him time to heal and be NFL ready. In 2011, Starks wasn't re-signed till October. This season should be no different for Casey Hampton. 10-year veterans who have memorized Dick Lebeau's playbook by this point don't need training camp. Hampton ... Read More
Bounce back year for the Steelers? Don’t count on it
Every year around this time, Pittsburgh Steelers fans come down with what they describe as "Steeler Fever", a city-wide epidemic that consumes the attention of Pittsburgh for four months. This year, there's a new symptom to this "Steeler Fever": blind optimism. Maybe it comes with the territory of expecting a winning season and a deep playoff run every year, or maybe it's because the Steelers still have a handful of core players from their Super Bowl run in 2008. Either way, the general ... Read More
Steelers acquire Felix Jones
With health being an issue this season for the Steelers, they have traded away linebacker Adrian Robinson for running back Felix Jones, who will help out the Steelers offense while running back Le'Veon Bell is out. Earlier this week, it was reported that Bell will be missing 6-8 weeks due to a Lisfranc injury. At the time, Issac Redman was announced the week one starter, but that may change with the addition of Jones. The Steelers may pursue a running back-by-committee approach until Bell ... Read More
Heath Miller injury not terrible for Steelers
There had been talk earlier this off-season that Miller could be back by the first week of the regular season, but that talk has died down. Miller should be back around week 6 (the Steelers have a bye in week 5) and even that is a faster recovery than some players make after suffering a major knee injury. Miller is very important to the Steelers passing and running game. He was the team’s MVP in 2012 and his presence in the running game will surely be missed, but having him later in the season ... Growing Pains for the Steelers
Maurkice Pouncey and the rest of the Steelers' offensive line have a lot of work to do (Flickr.com/Jeff Bryk) Preseason games are for teammates to get used to one another and get acclimated with the system. The panic button for me doesn't get hit until Week Six of the regular season. So as I've said in a previous article, if the Steelers are going to slump or struggle, the time to do it is now. The Pittsburgh Steelers are no different than any other team in NFL, except of course, for all ... Read More
Running back Le’Veon Bell has Lisfranc injury, surgery is a possibility
As if injuries aren't already bad enough for the Steelers, they suffered yet another hit to the team this afternoon. Rookie running back Le'Veon Bell is believed to have suffered a Lisfranc injury during Monday nights game against the Washington Redskins. While staying healthy has been something the Steelers have had trouble doing this past offseason, and current preseason, the loss of Bell might be the biggest one. He missed the team's first preseason game against the Giants due to a left ... Read More
Tired of the Gloom and Doom
With 2 less than stellar performances under the 2013 Steelers’ preseason belt, doubt is starting to evolve into panic amongst the Black and Gold faithful. Calling for another 8-8 season (or worse) is the leitmotif, and this is not an entirely unfounded prediction considering the sloppy (for lack of a better term) performance on display last night at Fedex Field. With injuries racking up as quickly as Rex Grossman racked up passing yards (yes, that really did happen), there is little reason to ... Read More
Steelers drop to 0-2 in preseason with loss to Redskins
LANDOVER, Md. - The Steelers fell to 0-2 in the preseason last night with a 24-13 loss to the Washington Redskins. Ben Roethlisberger started the game and completed five passes in six attempts for 66 yards. The only incompletion was an interception thrown to Redskins defensive lineman Ryan Kerrigan, who returned the ball 22 yards for the Redskins first touchdown at the time. Markus Wheaton caught three passes for 52 yards and Emmanuel Sanders pulled in two catches for 39 yards. First-year ... Read More
“The Standard is the Standard”
The Pittsburgh Steelers' system is like no other, one that can turn late round draftees and undrafted players into superstars. The Pittsburgh Steelers always look for one major asset in the draft - athleticism. We have seen over the years the Steelers draft players with freakish athleticism and talent for one simple reason. The system can teach football. Furthermore, the Pittsburgh Steelers were up against the cap heading into the 2013 season and were unable to retain three starters. Keenan ... Read More
