Kevin Colbert, the Pittsburgh Steelers general manager, said that the team would not rule out drafting any position in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft. After saying that many fans began thinking about whether or not the Steelers would take a quarterback in the first round of the draft. That comment has been taken way out of proportion and has been overblown by many people this week. Ben Roethlisberger was on pace to have the best season of his NFL career before he was injured against ... Read More
Is Steelers line or running backs at fault for running game?
The Pittsburgh Steelers run game is not what it used to be. During the 2005 season, the Steelers won a Super Bowl behind Willie Parker and Jerome Bettis and the run game. They passed the ball only when they needed too and Ben Roethlisberger only averaged 15 completions per game during the regular season. In comparison Roethlisberger averaged almost 24 completions per game in 2012 including only nine against the Chiefs in the game when he was injured. Roethlisberger was drafted by the Steelers ... Sure, no I in Team, but there most certainly is a ME
This article is in response to There’s no I – or we, us, our – in fan. "I want to bring back the pride and tradition long associated with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and more importantly, with the people of Pittsburgh." Bill Cowher, upon being hired as Head Coach of the Steelers in 1992. "To be honest, the fans pay our bills. They pay my bills. They pay for my house and everything else. That's the best feeling in the world to come out and see 60,000 people at a football game." Lee Flowers, on ... Read More
There’s no I – or we, us, our – in fan
Now we've all heard this before. And yes, I meant to say we. I'm grouping us into a group. We, in this case, is the fan. The fan which is short for fanatic. That's what we are, right? We're all sport fanatics. But there's something that we aren't. We aren't a part of the team that we cheer for. Call me picky or call me clueless. That's fine. But you are a fan and that's all. "We can't run this play. If we lose this game, it's going to hurt our playoff chances." - Oh really? Tell me ... Read More
Times are Changing: The Evolution of NFL Offenses

The weekend sports review by The Pittsburgh Housewife
I had been waiting for this past weekend for 116 days, and it couldn't have gone better. On Saturday the Pittsburgh Penguins were in Philly for their FIRST game of the season. I hate the Cryers Flyers, so seeing the Pens leave with a 3-1 win over them was great... no - it was awesome. The fact that the awesome Marc-Andre Fleury is now the Pens most winning goaltender, ever, made that win even better. He has played in 424 games, 226 of those wins. Ah sweet, sweet victory. Then Sunday’s game ... Read More
Breaking Down The Steelers 2013 Schedule
While the official schedule has yet to be released, the stage has already been set for the Pittsburgh Steelers opponents both home and away for 2013. The AFC North will be matched-up against the NFC North and AFC East in addition to their regular six divisional games. The Steelers also get to tangle with the Tennessee Titans at Heinz Field and Oakland Raiders on the road after finishing third in the AFC North this past season. First off, let’s get the AFC North division out of the way. As ... Read More
Should the Steelers Switch Back to the 4-3 Defense?
The Steelers have been running the 3-4 defense for years, but it may be time to think about making a change. Sure Dick LeBeau's defense was ranked first in the league statistically in 2012 and things seem to be fine on the defensive side of the ball. Yet with aging defenders and players expected to be on their way out of Pittsburgh in the next few years things are going to change drastically for the Steelers' defense. One change that could be positive is changing the defensive scheme from the ... Read More
College Coaches making transition to the NFL
With Jim Harbaugh leading his 49ers into their second consecutive NFC title game appearance, we got to thinking... how many college coaches have successfully made the transition into the ranks of the NFL? (Harbaugh coached Stanford for 4 years (29 – 21) while taking the Cardinal to a 12 – 1 record and Fiesta Bowl appearance in his final year before taking the San Fran job.) Also, for conversation purposes, let’s say that the coach had to have been a HC for at least 4 years in the college ranks ... Read More
Bruce Arians hired by Cardinals; Todd Haley stays in Pittsburgh
Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley was at the fore-front of the Arizona Cardinals search for a new head coach. However, when the Cardinals made their decision on their new head coach it was the Steelers last offensive coordinator that was hired, not their current one. Today, the Arizona Cardinals named Bruce Arians, who served as the Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator in 2012 and with the Steelers from 2004-2011, as their new head coach. Arians was signed to a ... Read More
