Sunday afternoon wasn't a must win for the Pittsburgh Steelers, but it was close and while it wasn't a pretty performance all-around, the important thing for the black-and-gold was that it was a win. By doing so they remain 2.5 games behind the Baltimore Ravens, as falling over three games back, even this early in the season may have been too big of a hole to dig out of. But this wasn’t just a win as the Steelers showed a little bit of a running game and a much better defensive effort, ... Read More
A Man’s World – Football isn’t just for Him
The NFL is typically considered a man’s world. Scantily clad cheerleaders shakin’ their moneymakers on the sidelines of most stadiums (Of course, you won’t find them at Heinz field, one of many reasons I’m proud to be a Yinzer - but that’s another article). Advertisements for tough, rugged trucks, beer commercials focusing on “man laws”. If you don’t have hair on your chest, you don’t quite belong on Sundays from September through January. Or at least that’s the misconception some people still ... Read More
Steelers sneak past Eagles on Suisham field goal
After a having the week off, the Steelers had themselves a tough opponent today, the Philadelphia Eagles. Both teams opened up looking fairly sloppy. The Eagles had a huge chance to strike early in the first quarter, but blew the opportunity. On a first and goal play, a designed quarterback draw resulted in Michael Vick fumbling in the end zone, which Larry Foote was able to recover. The Steelers, despite playing an unimpressive first quarter, were able to strike first. Rashard Mendenhall, in ... Read More
Week 5 Predictions in the NFL
Denver at New England This game will be looked upon solely as Manning vs Brady to see which future hall of famer will have the better game and lead his team to victory. Last week Manning looked good in his team's dismantling of the Raiders, while Brady and the Patriots scored 45 second half points to come back and beat the Bills. Both offenses are hot and I believe this game will come down to which defense can get to the quarterback the most and force a turnover. I expect a high scoring game ... Read More
No Defense at Tomlin’s Weekly Press Conference
The Pittsburgh Steelers, coming off an early bye week, will face the Philadelphia Eagles this Sunday at Heinz Field. As is the norm, head coach Mike Tomlin gave his weekly press conference to address the media involving the upcoming matchup. In 18 minutes, Tomlin covered the injury status of some key players (Polamalu, Harrison, Mendenhall), the impact players for the Eagles including a list of reasons why they will be enshrined in Canton, and media questions. Of the 23 questions asked, ... Read More
Fantasy Question: Fred Jackson or C.J. Spiller?
Questions have been asked throughout the past few weeks about the Buffalo backfield. Who to start, Fred Jackson or C.J. Spiller? Here are my thoughts on the Buffalo running back situation. Fred Jackson, the veteran running back, emerged as the featured player in Buffalo after the departure of Marshawn Lynch in 2009 and took advantage of the opportunity, rushing for over 1,000 yards. Jackson became a steal in certain drafts these past couple years, as he has ran for 900+ yards the past two ... Read More
How did the Pittsburgh Steelers spend their BYE Week?
The Pittsburgh Steelers found themselves in an unusual position during their early season bye week: With an unimpressive record of 1-2, they are under .500. It’s the first time the Steelers have had a losing record at the bye week since 2006. “Ha!” said the Pirates. “That’s nothing – we’ve been finishing the season under .500 for 20 years now.” Anyway, with the black and gold jerseys, tailgate grills, and television sets tucked away last weekend, it was our job to chronicle what the ... Deem’s preview of the weekend’s top games
Carolina at Atlanta looks like a good match up on paper, but if Carolina comes out and plays the way they did against the Giants last week, this will be over very quickly. The Falcons are coming off a dominant win over San Diego in which the offense and defense played great. Matt Ryan is the highest rated quarterback in the NFL after three weeks and I look for him to continue that trend this week against the Panthers secondary. Cam Newton needs to bounce back and prove to his doubters he can win ... Read More

Pittsburgh Steelers Recent Drafts Coming back to Haunt Them
The current question surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers is one of what exactly has happened to that once dominant Steelers' defense? You don't have to look further than the most recent NFL Draft's to find your answer. One thing the Steelers haven't done well in the Mike Tomlin-era is draft very well. Some of that has to do with drafting late and some of that can be attributed to not having many needs for the past few years, but the Tomlin-Kevin Colbert combination hasn't done as well as ...
