Jeff Locke looked solid as he threw seven innings of four-hit, one-run ball as the Pirates dropped their playoff magic number to 9 with a 3 - 1 victory over the Cubs on Thursday night. Locke retired the first six batters before allowing a lead-off single by Darnell McDonald to start the third. He moved to third on a groundout and scored when Starlin Castro hit a two-out two-strike pitch from Locke into left to make it 1 - 0 Cubs. He would encounter a bit of trouble in the fourth when he ... Read More

Waterloo’s quick hitters
Is Mike Tomlin on the "hot seat?" You're kidding, right? After one game, panic is everywhere in Yinztown. While the team did look pathetic against Tennessee and it won't be good this year (we tried to warn you), it's not because Mike Tomlin is a bad coach. Do I disagree with some of what he does? Yes. Do I think he's a top five coach in the league? No. Is he top 10? Yes. The thing is, with all of the veterans that were signed to big contracts during Tomlin's tenure, this was bound to happen. ... May we never forget 9/11
Sept. 11, 2001. Since the American Airlines Flight 11 left Boston's Logan Airport that morning, the country has never been the same. The heinous attacks on the Pentagon, Twin Towers and our country haven't been forgotten. It's a moment that no matter the age of the person, will forever be replayed in slow motion. They know where they where, what they were doing and who they were with. I was at Burrell High School in Lower Burrell, Pa. As a freshman in a new school, I didn't know anyone. ... Read More
Pirates take two straight over Rangers
ARLINGTON -- The Rangers snapped a 15-inning scoreless streak in the fifth, but by then, it was too late. The lack of early run support for Martin Perez, who had his roughest start in nearly two months, led to yet another September loss. Texas fell to the Pirates, 5-4, on Tuesday night at Rangers Ballpark for its fifth loss in the last six contests. The Rangers are 2-7 this month and remain two games back in the American League West behind the first-place A's, who lost, 4-3, to the ... Read More

82 forgettable Pirates
It has happened, Pirates fans. The winning season has finally arrived. Now, I'm in the group that feels it's a nice milestone, but it's time get past the idea of a winning season and look forward to the playoffs. However, the fact that we are talking about playoffs and the Pirates shows just how far the franchise has come since 1992. The following list is a grouping of 82 different Pirates that have kind of summed up the 20 years of losing. In no particular order, be glad that the years ... Read More

Gerrit Cole pitched seven strong innings of three-hit ball and Pedro Alvarez hit a seventh inning RBI double to give the Pirates a 1 - 0 victory over the Texas Rangers and Yu Darvish on Monday night. This isn't no ordinary win, though. This is the win that 21 years of pain, suffering, embarrassment, etc.. all went into the rear view mirror for Pirate fans. It is the first time since "The Slide" that the Buccos have secured a winning season. For most of you, this is the first time you've ... Read More

Corrections need to be made to win the division
As the Pirates closed out a lost weekend of baseball in St. Louis, they also saw themselves looking up at the team that had just swept them in the standings. With just three weeks left in the season, the Bucs seem to be playing their worst baseball of the season. In all three games, the offense failed to show up (unless you count coming back from a 12-1 deficit to make it a respectable 12-8 final) and the starting pitching was awful. Many fans who came home late from work would turn on the ... Read More
