Hunter Gilstrap returns to Riverhounds
A familiar face will be back between the sticks at Highmark Stadium in 2016, as longtime Riverhounds goalkeeper Hunter Gilstrap has returned to the team. Gilstrap, 32, will also coach the goaltenders at the Riverhounds' development academy. His first stint with the team saw him appear in 93 games from 2010 to 2014 and won the USL-2 Goalkeeper of the Year Award in 2010. Riverhounds add two ex-MLS players
The Pittsburgh Riverhounds continued to make roster moves. The team announced on Jan. 6 that they have signed two ex-MLS players. Corey Hertzog and Zak Boggs, who are both forwards, were signed to the Riverhounds to bolster their attacking game. Hertzog’s career started at Penn State. These changes show a focus on finding a goalie after both Ryan Thompson and Calle Brown moved on from Pittsburgh. After one season as an independent, the Pittsburgh Riverhounds have signed an affiliation agreement with the Columbus Crew of Major League Soccer for the 2016 season. The Pittsburgh Riverhounds (11-9-8) went on the road in the first round of the playoffs to visit the New York Red Bulls II (12-10-6). Pittsburgh was able to score early before going into extra time.
