Though there are a laundry list of reasons for why the Pittsburgh Steelers have been unable to stay consistent during an increasingly frustrating 7-5 campaign, one of the biggest reasons of late is the poor play of Ben Roethlisberger. After a two-game stretch that was among the best in NFL history, Roethlisberger has been unable to find the same passing touch that had him throw for nearly 900 yards, 12 TD's, no interceptions, and a passer rating of 143.5 in back to back contests against the ... Steelers Report Card following disappointing loss to Saints
In the middle of a tight AFC playoff race, all signs pointed to the Pittsburgh Steelers coming out of the gates strong following their bye week. They had a week off to recharge the batteries, got some key players back healthy, had a New Orleans Saints team coming to town that has been especially poor on the road and was coming off a short week having played Monday night. Those are the types of things that you can throw out the window when trying to figure this Steelers team out though, ... Read More
Steelers season hanging in the balance
Understatement of the year in Pittsburgh sports...the Steelers are maddeningly frustrating. This a team that is the epitome of any and all of the following: bizarre, inconsistent, dysfunctional, implosive, dangerous, full of potential. Let me start with that first descriptor, "bizarre." How can a team stomp all over a first-place Indianapolis Colts (8-4) team led by a top-tier quarterback (Andrew Luck) and its division rival Baltimore Ravens (7-5) the next week, setting passing records, ... Drew Brees, Saints pick Steelers apart
Drew Brees threw five touchdown passes to five different receivers as the New Orleans Saints came into Heinz Field and defeated a sloppy Pittsburgh Steelers team 35-32, in a game that could prove very costly to the Steelers playoff hopes. The game was a blowout and nowhere near as close as the three-point difference would indicate. All signs pointed to the Steelers having success against a team that had won only four games coming into Sunday. The Saints were a poor road team coming off ... Read More
Brett Keisel likely done for the season with injury
It took a while, but eventually defensive end Brett Keisel signed back for one more year with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Now it appears his final run has been cut short. Keisel had to leave Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints and appeared to be in a great deal of pain on the sidelines. While nothing was made official, word around the Steelers locker room is that Keisel is lost for the season with what is likely a torn tricep. If that is the case it likely wouldn't just end ... Ryan Shazier tops Steelers inactive list vs. Saints
The Pittsburgh Steelers are starting to get healthier on the defensive side of the ball, but as they prepare to play the New Orleans Saints Sunday afternoon at Heinz Field, they will still have to go without one of their key starters. Rookie linebacker Ryan Shazier still isn’t healthy enough to go and leads the list of Steelers inactives. In addition to Shazier, also inactive for the Steelers are Landry Jones, Justin Brown, Cortez Allen, B.W. Webb, Marcus Gilbert and Steve ... Read More
Brees, Saints stumble into Pittsburgh
Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints (4-7) offense have often struck fear into the hearts of opponents in recent years during the tenure of head coach Sean Payton. In 2014 as the Saints visit the Pittsburgh Steelers (7-4) for a vital Week 13 matchup for both sides, Brees and his offense continue to put up big yards, but inconsistency, turnovers and constant pressure to pick up a porous defense have led to an uncharacteristically poor start in New Orleans. The Saints are in football's worst ... Read More
No time for slip ups in the ultra-competitive AFC North
As the 2014 season began, it was clear that the AFC North would be one of the tougher divisions in football. The Cincinnati Bengals were coming off an 11-win season and division title, and though the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens struggled through 8-8 seasons, both teams are perennial contender’s year in year out. Though the Cleveland Browns ended the year at 4-12 with seven straight losses, they were beginning to show signs of no longer being the pushover everyone had grown ... Read More
Steelers soft schedule has them poised to end playoff drought
Many look at the fact at all four teams in the AFC North currently being over .500 and believe it is the best division in football. That very well may be true, but all four AFC North teams can thank a very weak out of division schedule that featured the AFC and NFC South, as a major reason why they are all in the position that they are in right row. Of the eight common non-division opponents all AFC North teams have played, or will play the rest of the season, only the Indianapolis Colts ... Read More
Some athletes use their social status for good, not just bad
America loves looking up to sporting world heroes. We admire their talent, we get caught up in the excitement of what they do, and we look to them to provide diversion from the every-day problems in our lives. The stars of the sporting world are worshipped by the fan base and garnish undivided attention of the media. Unfortunately, these heroes, despite their athletic talents, are not always gifted or willing to put forth an effort when it comes to humanitarian support. As recent incidents will ... Read More
