Needless to say it has been an interesting offseason for the Pitt Panthers football program.
Pat Narduzzi replaced Paul Chryst as head coach and has had to deal with a couple of off the field distractions thanks to DUI arrests of both wide receiver Tyler Boyd and defensive end Rori Blair.
Now one of the Panthers former coaches has filed a lawsuit against the university.
Former defensive back coach Troy Douglas, who came to Pitt last season from Iowa State and was fired when Narduzzi took over, has filed a lawsuit against the school, claiming that the university violated his two-year contract by firing him without cause after just one year.
The Tribune Review reports:
Instead of making the $240,000 that Pitt promised him this year, Douglas had to take a $40,000 job at Florida State University, the lawsuit says. He is seeking the difference in his pay plus other losses his family has incurred as a result of the firing.
In the lawsuit, Douglas claims that his contract wasn’t contingent on Chryst staying on as Pitt’s head coach.
Judging by the performance of the Pitt defense last season, especially the secondary, anyone who coached on the defensive side of the ball would have a hard time saying their firing wasn’t justified as the Panthers gave up points at will for most of the season.
All joking aside, it will be interesting to see how this suit plays out.
