As kickoff nears at Heinz Field between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Kansas City Chiefs, a game that contains major playoff implications, the Steelers will be without a couple of starters on the defensive side of the ball.
Safety Troy Polamalu tops the Steelers list of inactives Sunday. The veteran didn’t practice all week and is out with a knee injury. Polamalu missed two games earlier this year because of knee problems.
Cornerback Ike Taylor is also inactive on Sunday. The veteran is out with a forearm injury as he now has appeared in only five of the Steelers 15 games this season.
With Polamalu and Taylor out of action, it means that the Steelers will be heading into the game without three members of the secondary who opened the season as starters. Cortez Allen was placed on IR earlier this season.
Cornerback Brice McCain is expected to start for Taylor and Will Allen is expected to draw the start for Polamalu.
The other Steelers inactives include: quarterback Landry Jones, wide receiver Justin Brown, defensive end Clifton Geathers, offensive lineman Chris Hubbard and tight end Matt Spaeth.
As for the Chiefs, their inactives include: quarterback Aaron Murray, wide receiver Donnie Avery, cornerback Marcus Cooper, running back Charcandrick West, center Eric Kush, offensive lineman Laurent Duvernay-Tardif and defensive lineman Nick Williams.
Albert Wilson will get the start in place of Avery.
