As expected, University of Pittsburgh wide receiver Tyler Boyd was officially charged with a DUI on Tuesday, stemming from a traffic stop in Jefferson Hills on Friday.
Boyd, who is only 20 years of age, also faces summary charges for underage drinking and traffic violations.
The traffic stop occurred around 2:30 am when Boyd attempted to pass another car. While reports suggested that Boyd’s blood-alcohol content was under Pennsylvania’s 0.08 percent limit, because he is under 21 the limit is only 0.02 percent.
Boyd admitted to having “two shots” about 1 a.m. after watching the fourth game of the NBA Finals.

New Pitt head football coach Pat Narduzzi was disappointed in his star player.
“Tyler’s situation is both serious and disappointing,” Narduzzi said in a statement. “We have high expectations for the young men in our program, on and off the field. Tyler understands that and knows he must be responsible for his actions. Certainly he will be held accountable to our internal standards of discipline and behavior.”
While no punishments have been discussed, Boyd could likely be suspended for at least a game to begin the 2015 season.
Last season Boyd became the first receiver in ACC history to begin his career with back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons. Expectations are high for Boyd coming into this season as he has already been named a preseason All-American by a couple of different outlets and is considered one of the top NFL prospects at his position.
