After their big win Saturday against Syracuse that saw the Pitt Panthers improve to 6-1 on the season and 4-0 in ACC play, a number of Panthers players were honored by the ACC for their performances on Saturday.
Wide receiver Tyler Boyd, running back Qadree Ollison and linebacker Matt Galambos all earned ACC weekly honors.
Boyd completed a 38-yard pass, rushed six times for 34 yards and had a career-high 12 receptions for 93 yards to help pace No. 23 Pitt to the victory. He accounted for 40 percent of Pitt’s offensive putout for the game.
In the process, Boyd became the first Division I player since UTEP’s Lorne Sam in 2007 to record 20 yards passing, rushing and receiving in consecutive games. Boyd currently leads the ACC this season in receptions (8.8) and receiving yards (81.5) per game.
Ollison had another big game on the ground and was once again named ACC Rookie of the Week. The freshman rushed for 103 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries. The redshirt freshman, who began the year as Pitt’s third-string tailback, now has 662 yards on 118 carries and seven touchdowns on the year.
He was especially huge on Pitt’s game-winning drive that lasted 19 plays and burned the final 9:20 off the game clock.
As for Galambos, he made plays in all sorts of different ways, catching a pass on a fake punt during the Panthers’ final drive and making a huge interception.
The junior had five tackles and three tackles for loss. Galambos is the only linebacker in the nation since 2006 to record an interception and a reception in the same game.
Boyd, Galambos and Ollison were each recognized for the second time by the ACC.
The Panthers will be back in action Thursday night when they host North Carolina in a nationally televised game.
