Despite suffering their first loss of the season on Saturday, Pitt junior wide receiver Tyler Boyd had a big night.
A night big enough that saw him named the ACC’s Wide Receiver of the Week on Monday.
Boyd, who often saw double coverage from a tough Iowa defense, finished the night with 10 receptions for 131 yards. He also hauled in a game-tying touchdown catch with 52 seconds left.
Boyd came up big when the Panthers needed him the most. Moving the ball mostly through the air on their final drive, quarterback Nate Peterman found Boyd three times on the tying drive. One of those catches came on a fourth down that extended the drive.
The junior, playing his second game of the season after sitting out the opener serving a one-game suspension, has caught double digit passes in back-to-back weeks. He also moved into second all-time at Pitt with 184 career receptions and is only 18 shy of the record held by Devin Street.
It was also the 12th time in Boyd’s 28-game career that he has gone over the 100-yard plateau.
The Panthers return to action on October 3 when they play their ACC opener at Virginia Tech.
