Wandy Rodriguez has been placed on the 15-Day disabled list with right knee inflammation.
Hurdle on the injury — “Wand is not sure how he hurt his knee. He had gone to the training room after his last start and complained of some right knee discomfort. They scheduled a MRI appointment for today. He saw a doctor and said he felt it a couple of times in his last start and didn’t think anything of it. They extracted a large volume of fluid from his knee today.”
Hurdle on a replacement for Wandy — “We’ve got a couple different guys in house. We’ll see who lines up, whose lined up. I’m not going to announce somebody today, but I think we’re in a good place, though. We’ll have a pitcher to take his spot. We’ve added [Jared] Hughes to the bullpen tonight.”
Rodriguez is 0-2 in four starts this season with a 7.65 ERA and 1.600 WHIP. In his last start on Saturday, he went four innings allowing 4 runs on 6 hits while striking out 3 and walking 1. He also gave up a home run.
The velocity on his fastball has been down by couple of MPH this season, but manager Clint Hurdle expresses that was due to his arm problems last season.
