The Washington Wild Things have been on a skid as of late and their woes continued today as they dropped both games of their double-header to the Florence Freedom, 3-0 and 1-0.
In game one, the Freedom drove in all of their runs in the second inning. Shawn Sanford hit the first batter of the inning then allowed a walk, two singles, including an RBI single by Ryan Skellie, before getting the first out. Later in the inning, with two outs, Junior Arrojo hit a two-RBI single to give the Freedom their final two runs.
Sanford pitched the entire game, 7.0 innings, only giving up three hits throughout the game. Only two players on the Wild Things registered hits. Mark Samuelson tallied two hits and Shain Stoner provided the other hit, a leadoff single to start the game.
The Wild Things only left three runners on base throughout the loss.
Game two didn’t end up any better for the Wild Things other than the fact that they only allowed one run.
Shawn Blackwell pitched 6.0 shutout innings before coming off of the hill for Washington. Blackwell did what he could, getting out of jams including a bases loaded situation in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Arrojo, again, drove in the winning run for the Freedom. on a bases loaded walk in the seventh inning.
Despite solid pitching performances in both games, the Wild Things weren’t able to get their offense going. The Wild Things will play another double header tomorrow beginning at 4:05 pm ET. Gary Lee will take the hill for the Things in game one.
