** The following is an official recap from the Washington Wild Things **
Washington, PA-For the second time in this series, the Windy City Thunderbolts scored the winning runs in the ninth inning to steal a 7-5 victory from the Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, on Sunday evening at CONSOL Energy Park.
In a similar situation to last night’s contest, Windy City scored their first two runs via a two-run homerun. This time in the first inning, after a hit by pitch to leadoff man Evan Button, Chad Creger quickly lifted his fourth homer of the year to give the visitors an early 2-0 advantage.
A single by Chase Tucker, a walk to Button, a well-placed fielder’s choice play by Mike Torres and a Ryan Soares RBI-groundout combined for Windy City’s third tally, giving them a 3-0 lead.
As Johnny Montoya relieved starter Dan Goldstein, the next batter, Ryan Soares, who is on a nine-game hit streak, collected his second and third RBI of the game, singling in Button and Ray putting Windy City in front 5-0 in the fifth frame.
In the home half of the fifth, the Things’ fought back from five down and rallied for a five-run frame to tie the game. After three consecutive singles by Nick Boggwqan, Matt Mirabal and Tyler Hall, Windy City southpaw Matt Wickswat walked in Nick Boggan for the Things’ first score of the evening. With bases loaded and no out, CJ Beatty wiped them clean with an RBI triple to cut the deficit 5-4. The Wild Things then tied the game, 5-5, when Stewart Ijames hit a sacrifice-fly to the opposing left fielder, plating Beatty.
Windy City scored two runs in the top of the ninth to break the tie and capture another late-inning victory as Button hit his second two-run homerun of the series, this time the go-ahead shot, off reliever Amalio Diaz.
