Washington, PA—In a game that concluded nearly 24 hours after it began the Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, fell to the Schaumburg Boomers 1-0 in extra innings. The game was suspended in the middle of the fifth inning Wednesday night due to rain.
The Wild Things played the second game of the night and the last of the series against the Boomers that was scheduled as a seven-inning contest, but required one extra inning to decide the winner. The Wild Things strived to win the series against the Boomers but left with no success after an action-packed game.
The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the second inning when Washington outfielder Stewart Ijames and Things’ third baseman Carter Bell started a rally with single hits that created push on the field. Washington left the inning with a 1-0 lead.
Boomers batter Alexi Colon replied back to the lead with a single blast that spiked a comeback from the Boomers. Sean Mahley followed with a triple and Schaumburg took the lead by one run at the top of the third inning. Schaumburg kept the lead with a RBI single in the top of the fourth inning leaving the score, 3-1.
Washington came back with heat in the fourth inning and plated two more runs leaving the game tied up, 3-3. No runs were scored the remainder of the game, which led to extra innings for the second time today. In the eighth inning a sacrifice-fly gave Schaumburg the win leaving the final score 4-3.
Washington returns to action tonight when they open a three game series against the visiting Joliet Slammers. First pitch Friday is slated for 7:05 p.m.
