After getting swept yesterday in a double header, the Washington Wild Things came back Friday night and won both games of their second double header, 3-0 and 4-1 over the Frontier Greys.
In game one, Zach LeBarron made his Washington Wild Things debut, and what a debut it was. LeBarron, who most recently came from the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim organization, tallied six strikeouts during his debut and looked in total control out on the mound.
The Wild Things got things started in the second inning and no one looked back. Designated hitter Mark Samuelson led off the inning with a walk, that was followed by a Jovan Rosa single that put runners on first and third. Following suit, Stewart Ijames hit a sacrifice fly to plate the first run for the Things. That’d be all that they would need for the victory.
Later in the bottom of the sixth inning, CJ Beatty singled in the final run of the game for the 2-0 victory.
LeBarron went 5.1 innings, only walking one batter and never giving up a hit. Relievers Orlando Santos and Jhonny Montoya combined to allow one hit over the rest of the game, hanging on for the Wild Things fifth shutout of the season.
Rosa finished with two hits in three at-bats for the Things in game one.
In game two, the Wild Things started things off in the bottom of the first with three runs.
Darian Stanford led off the bottom of the first with a walk, followed by a single by Shain Stoner. Stanford then stole third base and was in prime position to be driven in by Beatty later in the inning. Before the inning was over, Ijames drove in Stoner and Beatty to give the Wild Things a 3-0 lead early.
After not allowing a hit to the first eight batters, Gary Lee finally gave up a hit with two outs in the third inning. It would be one of only three hits that the Greys would get in seven innings.
In the bottom of the third, Beatty drove in the final run, and his third of the game, to bring the score to 4-0. JJ Muse of the Greys would hit a solo shot in the top of the 4th but that would be the only run that the Greys would score before the final pitch was tossed.
Lee pitched 6.0 innings, giving up the one run on three hits. Lee is now 3-3 on the season. Amalio Diaz came in to close out the 7th inning, making his Wild Things debut and picking up the save.
The win for the Wild Things put them one game over .500. They’ll take on the Greys again tomorrow night with first pitch set for 7:05 pm ET.
