WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Nov. 5) – Despite being off this past Saturday, the Waynesburg University football team shot up the rankings in a pair of national top 25 polls and moved up a spot in a regional poll.
Thanks in part to several ranked teams falling on Saturday, Nov. 3, the idle Yellow Jackets jumped ahead four spots from 22nd to 18th in the D3football.com top 25 rankings. It is the highest the Jackets have ever been ranked in the 10-year existence of the D3football.com polls.
Waynesburg also moved up several spots in the American Football Coaches Association top 25, where they are now ranked 13th in the nation. The Jackets previously held down the number-19 spot in the AFCA rankings..
Waynesburg, which has already clinched a share of the 2012 PAC title, also made a move up the Lambert Meadowlands Football Polls as presented by FieldTurf, which were released by the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC). The Jackets moved up one spot from eighth to seventh in the polls.
As previously mentioned, the Waynesburg has already clinched a share of this year’s PAC football title. However, Waynesburg needs to beat Washington & Jefferson (7-2, 6-1) to secure the outright conference title and the PAC’s automatic berth into the NCAA Division III national tournament. Kickoff for Saturday’s “PAC Backyard Brawl” is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. The game will also serve as Waynesburg’s senior day.
