The Waynesburg Yellow Jackets men’s basketball team has been on quite a roll as of late, winners of six consecutive contests to pull into a tie with Thomas More for second place in the PAC, just a game and a half behind conference leader St. Vincent.
A big reason for the Yellow Jackets recent surge has been the play of senior wing Jacob Fleegle.
Fleegle, a Jennerstown PA. native, became the 33rd 1,000-point scorer when he scored 17 points during the Yellow Jackets’ 78-53 victory over Bethany on Saturday.
In the process, Fleegle has been named the PAC Player of the Week.
During the week the senior averaged a team-best 16.0 points and added 2.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.
The hot streak has seen Fleegle up his season scoring average to 10.0 points per game, making him the third Yellow Jackets player to average double figures on the season behind Jason Propst (11.1) and BJ Durham (10.3).
Fleegle has averaged 10.7 points per game during conference play, making him one of four Yellow Jackets players to average double figures.
Waynesburg (15-9, 11-4 PAC) will finish up the regular season on Wednesday when they play host to Geneva (10-13, 7-7).
In other PAC news:
– Lost in what has been a miserable season for the W&J Presidents has been a solid senior season for Mike Resnik.
The Presidents have struggled to a 1-22 (0-14 PAC) mark, but Resnik ranks third in the conference in scoring (17.7 ppg.) and fifth in rebounding (7.0 rpg.).
Resnik and the Presidents finish the season at Westminster on Wednesday before closing the regular season out by hosting Bethany on Saturday.
