After a rather slow start to the season, the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets men’s’ basketball team has picked things up as of late, mostly riding the shoulders of senior forward Jason Propst.
After leading the Yellow Jackets to a 2-1 mark during the week, averaging a team-high 15.3 points per game, Propst was named the PAC Player of the Week.
Propst scored 19 points during Waynesburg’s 77-69 victory over Wittenberg in the opening round of the Charles B. Zimmerman Memorial Classic on December 29.
He capped off the week by five-straight points down the stretch in Saturday’s 64-57 come-from-behind win at W&J, including knocking down the eventual game-winner.
Propst finished the week shooting 42.9 percent (15-of-35) from the floor and 77.8 percent (14-of-18) from the free throw line. He also averaged 4.7 rebounds for the week.
On the season Propst is averaging 11.8 points per game, leading the Yellow Jackets and good for 14th in the conference.
Waynesburg has upped their overall mark to 6-6 on the season and is sitting at 2-1 in the PAC. The Yellow Jackets have won five of their past six contests.
Propst isn’t the only one playing well at the moment for Waynesburg as senior wing Thomas Ellis and junior guard B.J. Durham chipped in 12.0 and 11.0 points per contest during the past week.
They will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to take on St. Vincent.
