The Wheeling Nailers and Pittsburgh Penguins announced that they have continued their partnership for another season.
The Nailers, the ECHL affiliate of the Penguins, will begin its 16th season affiliated with the NHL’s Penguins.
During that span, 13 former Nailers have gone on to play with the Pens, including most recently forwards Adam Payerl and Zach Sill, and defensemen Philip Samuelsson, who all made the leap to the NHL last season.
“We are thrilled to extend our relationship with the Penguins and their AHL affiliate, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins,” said Nailers Governor Don Rigby through a press release. “Pittsburgh does an excellent job of balancing the values of winning and player development on the ice, while also helping us make a valuable connection with our fans off of the ice.”
It’s good for the Penguins to have such a local pipeline that has produced NHL caliber talent through the system.
The Nailers open the regular season against the Reading Royals on Saturday, October 18th at WesBanco Arena.
