According to corner back William Gay’s official Twitter account he will be rejoining the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Gay will return to the Steelers after one season with the Arizona Cardinals. Last off-season Gay left the Steelers for more money, but after being cut by the Cardinals as part of a salary cap purge it appears he is on his way back to Pittsburgh.
On Gay’s official Twitter page he changed his info back to “cornerback of the Pittsburgh Steelers” and later tweeted “@williamgay22: I’m glad I didn’t sell my condo in Pittsburgh….”
Gay is 28 and has played six seasons in the NFL, five with the Steelers. His best season in Pittsburgh came in 2011 and he left the following off-season when the Cardinals offered more money.
With the Steelers now looking at possibly losing Keenan Lewis to free agency Gay will add some veteran depth at the corner back position. The projected starters for 2013 are Ike Taylor and Cortez Allen, if Lewis leaves.
If Lewis is also signed than the addition of Gay will help further solidify one of the deepest and most talented positions on the Steelers roster. Contract details have not yet been released, but should be announced soon.
William Gay will once again wear the number 22. Chris Rainey wore that number in 2012, but was released at the start of the off-season due to off-the-field issues.
