Here at the Yinzer, we are going to be doing a “Yinzer of the Week Award” coming each and every Tuesday. To win the award, you of course have to be from Pittsburgh and have to perform well in your sport over the weekend. While there were many candidates this week, I decided to give the inaugural award to Pitt quarterback Tino Sunseri.
No, seriously.
Sunseri is in his senior season at Pitt and the majority of fans are ready to get him off campus. He bad in a loss to Youngstown State and horrible in a loss to Cincinnati. With No. 13 Virginia Tech coming to Heinz Field last Saturday, there were even talks of freshman Chad Voytik starting over Sunseri.
The Central Catholic grad silenced his critics (at least for the week) as he led his Panthers to an improbable 35-17 win over the Hokies.
Sunser went 19-of-28 for 283 yards, three touchdowns and an interception on his way to winning the Big East Player of the Week award.
With his performance, Sunseri ranks sixth all-time in school history with 6,102 passing yards.
Congrats to Sunseri and check back every Tuesday to find out who the Yinzer of the Week was.
