The Pirates have been red hot lately, winning five of their seven games this past week. The only game in which the Pirates allowed more than four runs was last night against the St Louis Cardinals. A big part of their success has been the bats that have come alive. One of those bats just happens to be our Yinzer of the Week, Gaby Sanchez.
Sanchez hit .416 this past week, totaling six hits in 13 at-bats. His six hits came in pairs, giving him three multiple hit games during the stretch. On each occasion that Sanchez recorded multiple hits, one of those hits was a home run. On Tuesday night, Sanchez doubled and homered in the Pirates 2-0 win over the Phillies. Sanchez also tallied six RBI’s over the week and only struck out in one trip to the plate.
His three RBI performance against the Phillies on Thursday led to the Pirates 6-4 victory. His hits were timely and kept the Pirates afloat. Sanchez hit a 408 foot long ball to tie the game at 1-1 in the 6th inning and then singled in a run in the top of the 7th to bring the Buccos within one. He then capped off the night with a sac fly to give his team their sixth and final run.
For his hard work in his first season as a Bucco, Sanchez is this week’s Yinzer of the Week.
