The Pittsburgh Pirates have been red hot lately, winning nine of their last twelve and nineteen games total in the month of May. For the past seven days, no one has been as hot for the Bucs as second baseman, Neil Walker.
Over the past week, Walker has had multi-hit games in five of the Pirates seven games. He put one over the fence in three of those games and drove in a run in four of them. He also crossed the plate in five of the seven games.
For the week he hit .440, with eleven hits, three home runs, four RBI’s, six runs, and a double. This is good news for the Pirates considering that Walker has been struggling to start the season. Before this week, he’d only hit one home run. He now has four. He also only had 12 RBI’s coming into this week, and he now has 16. In April, Walker hit .253 but hit .293 for the month of May.
Walker’s strong play has helped the Pirates during their historic month, and for that, he’s our Yinzer of the Week.
