Even though the Pirates have had a rough start to their baseball season, one player on the team is shining. That player is the youngster in the outfield, Starling Marte.
So far this young season, Marte is batting .350 with 4 RBI’s, 14 hits, 7 runs and two stolen bases. He also has an on-base percentage of .395 and a slugging percentage of .450. He’s also hitting .500 with runners in scoring position, and .333 with runners on and two outs. He currently leads the Pirates in batting average, hits, and on-base-percentage.
For the week, Marte had a .400 average, 10 hits, 4 runs, two doubles, one triple and a stolen base. He’s had at least two hits in every game this week and had two RBI’s in the Bucco’s 6-5 win over the Diamondbacks on Tuesday night. For the series against Arizona, Marte went 6-13, with both of his doubles and his triple coming in the series. He drove in three runs over the series, as well.
Marte is quickly shaping up to be a shining star for the Pirates, and for that, Marte is this week’s Yinzer of the Week.
