For this week’s edition of Yinzer of the Week, we’ve decided to change things up a bit. First, we’re giving the award to two players rather than one. Second, we’re compiling the stats for an entire career not just a week. Lastly, we’re giving the award before the game is even played. Generally, we take a look at the teams in the Pittsburgh area and take a look at their records and the outstanding players of the week. The week runs from Saturday to Friday, with the winner announced on each Saturday. But seeing as how Sunday will be the last time two PITT basketball players will don the Panthers jersey at home, we’ve decided to make an exception. So this week’s Yinzers of the Week are Tray Woodall and Dante Taylor.
Tray Woodall is a 6’0″ guard from Brooklyn, New York and has been with PITT since the 2008-2009 season. His past two seasons have been the most productive for the Panthers. He’s averaged 11.6 points, 5.6 assists, and 2.7 rebounds per game over the past two years. He’s shooting 45.5 percent from the floor, including just over 38 percent from behind the arc. He’s made 141 career long balls over his span at PITT, also. He’s one of ten players in school history to rack up 400 career assists and one of sixteen players to record 300 points and 150 assists in one season. Woodall has been the true definition of a point guard for PIT over his career, and ranks among the tops in school history in point-assists double-doubles, with 6. This season, he’s averaging 11.5 points and 5.1 assists per game.
Dante Taylor is a 6’9″ forward from Greenburgh, New York and has been with PITT since the 2009-2010 season. His numbers have been steady ever since he stepped on the court. He’s averaged just over 5.0 points and just over 4.0 rebounds per game for his career. He ranks 19th in school history in blocked shots with 67.
When any player stays at a school for four years, he’s special to that school and to those fans. Whether he was the star player or came off the bench, fans, coaches and other players respect that out of a player. We here at the Yinzer are no different and that’s why we’re tipping our hat to these two seniors and wishing them the best in their future careers.
Congratulations to the Yinzers of the Week: Tray Woodall and Dante Taylor.
